WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary football Head Coach Mike London finalized the Tribe's 2022 recruiting class Wednesday, as he announced the addition of six talented student-athletes who signed National Letters of Intent.
 
Wednesday's roster additions join a group of five standouts who signed NLI's with W&M during the early signing period in December.
 
"The six student-athletes we signed today complete what we feel is a balanced and competitive 11-player class," London said. "We build our program on the foundation of student-athletes who seek to compete at the highest level of FCS football and prioritize receiving a world-class academic experience. In recruiting this class we feel like we identified outstanding, well-rounded young men who will add to our culture and have the work ethic and ability to contribute to championships on the field. I am thrilled with the thorough work our staff has done and look forward to the opportunity of bringing these outstanding young men into our William & Mary community."

The dynamic six-member incoming class features standouts on both sides of the ball and includes a quarterback, two offensive linemen, a defensive back and two outside linebackers.

BRYCE BARNES | DEFENSIVE BACK

6-1 • 180 • GAITHERSBURG, MD. • QUINCE ORCHARD HS

What Barnes brings to the Tribe: "Bryce is a long, athletic defensive back with a great skill set. His speed, physicality and ball skills really stood out to us. The more we got to know him through the process, we also loved his passion for the game. We are excited to add him to the Tribe." Prep: Standout defensive back for head coach John Kelley at Quince Orchard High School … Earned honorable mention all-state accolades as a senior … Also garnered all-county first-team distinction in 2021 … All-Met honorable mention selection in 2021 … Helped lead his team to a pair of state titles …  Personal: Son of Dennis and Kristin Barnes … Brother, Ryan, is a cornerback at Notre Dame … Cousin, Byron Thweatt, who played linebacker in the NFL for the Tennessee Titans and Tampa Bay Buccaneers … Enjoys photography, fishing and community service.

CHRISTIAN HAMM | OUTSIDE LINEBACKER

What Hamm brings to the Tribe: "Christian was two-way player who we project to really develop on the defensive side when he gets to W&M. His combination of size and athleticism, which he showed on both sides of the ball, really stood out to us. This combination of traits are what we look for in an OLB." Prep: Four-year letterwinner for head coach George Coghill at James Monroe High School … Captain his senior season and chosen as the team's MVP … Honored as the Battlefield District Defensive Player of the Year and All-Region Co-Defensive Player of the Year following his senior season in which he totaled 86 tackles, 10 sacks and 30 TFL … Second-team all-region selection as a tight end after his senior season in which he totaled 46 receptions for 556 yards and 11 touchdowns … Also garnered Free-Lance Start All-Area First Team honors as a tight end … Also lettered in basketball and track … Named the Lowery Memorial Top Underclassman Student Athlete Award of the Year in 2020-21 …  Personal: Son of Corey and Latina Hamm … Father played basketball at Mary Washington University … Grandfather, LeRoy Hamm, Jr., played football at Norfolk State … Volunteers with multiple local organizations.

TYLER HUGHES | QUARTERBACK

What Hughes brings to the Tribe: "Tyler has been the top QB on our board since he came to camp this past June. He is dynamic in every sense of the word. He put up elite numbers against some great competition and those traits showed when we got to work with him in person."   Prep: Four-year letterwinner as a quarterback at Marietta High School … Two-time all-state selection who totaled more than 7,000 passing yards and 70 touchdowns during his final two seasons … First-team all-region selection as a junior and a senior … Recorded 47 touchdowns and averaged 320 passing yards per game with a 64 percent completion percentage as a senior … Set a single-game school record with six touchdowns … Earned Scholar Athlete Award as a senior … Garnered the Coaches Award in 2020 …  Personal: Son of Tommie Glover and Diana Hughes … Mentor for Leadership volunteer … Enjoys training, fishing and spike ball.

KADIN LYNCH | OFFENSIVE LINEMAN

What Lynch brings to the Tribe: "Effort, competitiveness, toughness. This is what Kadin brings to William & Mary. He comes to W&M from a strong family and great high school football program. He is a natural leader that won't back down from anybody." CADE MATTIVE | OUTSIDE LINEBACKER

What Mattive brings to the Tribe: "Cade was another player who really put the work in to improve from his junior to senior year. When you turn on the film you see someone who plays with reckless abandon and a great motor. Couple that with great size, length, and speed; we feel like he has all the traits we look for at the position." Prep: Standout linebacker for head coach Nathan Yates at Riverbend High School … Earned all-district honorable mention honors as a senior after totaling 53 tackles, 9.5 TFL and four sacks, despite missing multiple games … Also lettered twice in basketball and track … Member of DECA, Fredericksburg Christian Athletes and his church's youth group …  Personal: Son of Shannon and Shannon Mattive … Uncle, Brett Tillett, played football at W&M (1993-97) … Enjoys weightlifting, fishing and video games.
