Erik Korem was appointed William & Mary's Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete High Performance in May 2018. Korem brings nearly two decades of national expertise to the Tribe at the professional and collegiate levels, most recently, serving as the Director of Sports Science for the National Football League's Houston Texans.

Korem is responsible for all areas of student-athlete performance, including nutrition, sports medicine and strength & conditioning.

"The student-athletes of William & Mary deserve to be surrounded by outstanding coaches and support staff, who are each committed to our students' individual development and team success.  The appointment of Erik Korem is a clear demonstration of the commitment we are making to boldly pursue excellence," W&M Director of Athletics Samantha K. Huge said at the time of his hiring.  "Erik brings a wealth of knowledge, experience and passion to W&M Athletics and his leadership will provide our student-athletes the opportunity to not only reach, but go beyond their potentials.  We are excited to have Erik join the Tribe, and we can't wait for him to get started."

He has successfully trained athletes at all levels, from the collegiate and professionals ranks to Olympic champions.  "I can't thank Erik Korem enough for the performance training he provided for me while I was a player at (the University of) Kentucky.  He definitely set me on the right path as I pursued my goal of playing in the NFL," said Avery Williamson, New York Jets and former All-SEC linebacker for the Wildcats.

"William & Mary is a world-class university and the W&M Athletics program has a proud history across many sports," Korem said.  "My job is to partner with our coaches, our training staff, our medical professionals, and, most importantly, our students, to help them reach new heights.  I look forward to taking advantage of all that the university has to offer to accomplish our goals.  I want to thank Ms. Huge for this incredible opportunity."

Prior to working with the Houston Texans, Korem served in athlete performance and administration roles at the University of Kentucky, Florida State University, Mississippi State University, University of the Pacific, Fort Valley State University and the University of Arkansas.  He is an internationally recognized expert in the field of sports performance, presenting at conferences around the world and consulting with Nike, the NFL and Australian Rules Football Clubs, among others.  Korem also served as an adjunct professor at Mississippi State. Erik has earned his Ph.D. in Exercise Science from the University of Kentucky, after earning a Master of Science from the University of Arkansas and a Bachelor of Science from Texas A&M University.
