Justin Topping enters his first season as the Tribe's
volunteer assistant coach in 2011.
Topping will serve as the Tribe's catching coach as well as the first
base coach during the season. Topping
will also assist the coaching staff will all other aspects of the Tribe
baseball program.
"I am very pleased
to announce the addition of Justin to our staff," Coach Leoni said at the time of
the hiring. "He is an extraordinary young man, having completed an
undergraduate degree at VMI and pursuing an MBA in the Mason School
of Business. Our catchers and team, in general, will benefit from
Justin's knowledge and experience, leadership qualities, and dedication to
being a quality coach."
Topping comes to William and Mary after wrapping up a
successful four-year playing career at VMI in 2011. Over his four seasons as a catcher for the
Keydets, Topping appeared in 158 games while earning 119 starts. For his career, Topping hit .282 with four
home runs, 24 doubles, and 64 RBIs.
Topping had his best season for VMI in 2011, when he hit .333 with a
home run, six doubles, and 15 RBIs.
Topping was a leader on and off the field for the Keydets,
serving as a team captain in 2011.
During his final year at VMI, Topping was the recipient of the Keydet
Club Board of Governor's Resolution, which is given to the senior who best
exemplifies leadership, athletic, and academic standards of excellence. Topping also received the Lieutenant General
Edward Mallory Almond '15 Award in 2011, which is presented to a graduating
senior for academic, athletic, and military excellence.
Topping graduated from VMI in 2011 with a degree in
economics and business. He is currently
pursuing his MBA at the College.
