Jacob Skipper was a member of the William & Mary Athletics Department for 20 years between 2001-21, in successive roles in the Media Relations department including student worker, intern, and as an Associate Director of Athletics Media Relations. Skipper's responsibilities as included coverage of the Tribe field hockey, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's cross country, and men's and women's track and field teams. Additionally, he was the primary statistician for all home basketball games, and oversees the student work force for the Media Relations office.
Skipper began work at W&M on the third day of his freshman year in 2001, and has been a fixture on Tribe sidelines ever since. After graduating with his degree in Operations and Information Systems in 2005, he then served three years as the office intern before being promoted to Associate in the summer of 2008. Over the course of his 14 years of post-graduate employment, Skipper has served as the primary sports contact for 15 of W&M's 23 sports, including baseball, volleyball, men's golf, women's golf, women's soccer, and women's basketball in addition to his current sports. As well, he has been event contact and tournament directors for a number of events across every one of the 23 varsity sports programs.
Beyond the team responsibilities, Skipper is also the department historian, and oversees historical research in the Tribe archives, helping build online reserves of all-time rosters, statistics, honors, and the W&M Athletics Hall of Fame. He was named an honorable-mention SID of the Year by Swimming World Magazine in both 2007 and 2008. Skipper has served a past term as Vice President of the Virginia Association of Sports Information Directors, and is the Division I-level all-state team coordinator for field hockey, men's and women's swimming, and men's and women's track & field.
Skipper also spent two years in college as an assistant wrestling coach at Bruton High School, coaching several state qualifiers. Outside of work, his interests include architecture, history, technology, trying exotic cuisines, and science fiction. He is the proud uncle of two young men, David Jackson and Peyton Charles, and resides in Williamsburg with his two adopted cats, Sabrina (#sabrinastagram) and Tigger (#arumtumtiggerisacuriouscat).
