Evan Martinez joined the William & Mary Athletics staff as the Assistant Athletic Director for Marketing & Fan Engagement in March 2025. Martinez oversees the outreach and marketing strategy, game-day promotions and production, fan experience, advertising, budgets, and digital marketing efforts for all 23 William & Mary sport programs as well as provides oversight of the dance, cheer, & pep band programs, and holds a leadership role within the athletics external team.
Prior to joining the W&M staff, Martinez spent two seasons at the University of Virginia as the Assistant Director of Marketing & Digital Advertising. His duties included oversight and implementation of all digital communications including mass-marketing email strategies, SMS text outreach, the UVA Sports mobile app and Virginia Sports website, created in-game elements and directed the run-of-show for assigned sports, maintained media trade partner relationships, and served as the primary marketing contact for Cavalier Men’s Basketball, men’s & women’s lacrosse, & track & field programs.
Before his 2-year stint with the Cavaliers, Martinez held the role of Assistant Director of Marketing & Fan Engagement for the University of Alabama at Birmingham Athletics. While with the Blazers, Martinez created marketing plans, graphics & LED content, and oversaw a promotional budget for men’s basketball, volleyball, and baseball. Additionally, he spearheaded email marketing efforts emphasized on season ticket renewals and new sales as well as had direct oversight of the marketing intern program and Gang Green student outreach efforts.
A native of Chama, NM, Martinez earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of New Mexico in 2019. Martinez then completed his master’s in Business Administration from UAB in 2024. He currently resides in Newport News with his dog Luna.
