Conor Cantwell

Conor Cantwell joined William & Mary in March 2025 as Sport Performance Coach, overseeing strength and conditioning for women’s basketball, volleyball, and men’s and women’s tennis. He also oversees sport science support services for the Sports Performance Department. He has over six years of experience at the professional, Division I, and Division III levels.

Before W&M, he coached at Wisconsin-Platteville from 2023-25, as a strength and conditioning coach for women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, and throws. Prior to Platteville, he spent the 2023 baseball season with the Cincinnati Reds’ Single-A affiliate, the Daytona Tortugas.

Originally from Kilkenny, Ireland, Cantwell holds a degree in sport and exercise sciences from the University of Limerick, where he worked with Munster Rugby and served as Head of Athletic Performance for Garryowen RFC. He interned at East Tennessee State University, supporting baseball and Olympic training site athletes.
He earned a master’s in sport physiology and performance coaching from Carroll University, where he also led research and sport science initiatives. A published author, he has contributed to peer-reviewed journals and over 30 national conference abstracts.

Cantwell is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with Distinction (CSCS*D) and Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (RSCC) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association and USA Weightlifting Level 1 Coach.

He lives in Williamsburg with his wife, Jayna.
