David Nguyen enters his first season as the W&M volleyball assistant coach.

During the summer of 2019, Nguyen served as the USA Volleyball High Performance Assistant Coach for the Old Dominion Region's Girls Youth team.

He came to W&M after spending the past season at University of Virginia as the Director of Volleyball Operations. During his time at UVA, Nguyen was directly responsible for video coordinating and statistical scouting reports. During matches, Nguyen was responsible for coding on DataVolley for live statistical feedback to the coaching staff. He was also the coordinator for all volleyball activities and budget management.

Prior to joining UVA, Nguyen spent four years on staff at VCU. During his time as a volunteer assistant for the Rams, Nguyen helped guide the program to an A-10 championship and NCAA appearance in 2017. Nguyen helped the Rams to an RPI ranking of 35 in 2017 and 38 in 2013, with a record of 30-3 in his final season.

With VCU he was directly responsible for overseeing the team’s scouting, film and statistical operations along with assisting in the training of the setters and outsides. In addition to his time at UVA and VCU, Nguyen has experience in the club volleyball ranks.

The new W&M assistant served as a head coach for the CAVC 17U girls team. He also has experience serving as an assistant for the RVC 16U boys team.

At UVA, Nguyen was also given the role of Camp Director due to his experiences coaching camps for UNC, VCU, and Coastal Carolina.

Nguyen earned his bachelor of science in general mathematical sciences from VCU in 2018.
