Former Ohio All-American Abby Gilleland is in her first season with William & Mary in 2016, assisting with all aspects of the Tribe program. In addition to her recruiting and administrative duties, Gilleland will have primary responsibility for coaching W&M's setters.
Gilleland comes to Williamsburg after a spectacular four-year career at Ohio, where she was a two-time All-American setter for the Bobcats. Named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year and Setter of the Year in both 2013 and 2014, she helped lead Ohio to four conference titles and two NCAA Tournament bids. In 2015, she led the league in assists with 10.91 per set, and earned her third-straight spot on both the All-MAC and All-Region first teams. Gilleland was also the MAC Tournament MVP in 2015, after leading Ohio to its second tournament title in three years.
Off the court, Gilleland was just as impressive, earning second-team CoSIDA Academic All-District honors as a junior and being chosen by Ohio as their female recipient of the MAC Medal of Excellence for 2015-16. She also worked as a student assistant in Ohio's Development Office as a senior, and coached youth and high school-age athletes in summer and winter camps. Gilleland was the SAAC representative for the volleyball team each of the last three years, and was selected by the MAC to attend the NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum in 2015. She graduated magna cum laude this spring with a degree in sports management and a business administration minor.
