In the soccer realm, Washburn spent three years as an assistant coach at VMI from 2013-15, while she was serving as an ROTC instructor on campus. She appeared in 65 matches with 18 starts, finishing with six goals, 11 assists, and 23 points during her career. She helped the Mids to 60 wins, a pair of Patriot League Tournament Championships, two Patriot League regular season titles, and two berths in the NCAA Tournament. Washburn also played one season for the Navy women’s lacrosse program.

She continued her soccer career professionally, as Washburn was a member of the San Diego Sea Lions of the Women’s Premiere Soccer League (WPSL) in 2012. She also had two stints on the Armed Forces women’s soccer team in 2012 and 2015. That team competed internationally in the Consiel International du Sport Militaire (CISM) Women’s Football Championship in Germany and the Military World Games in South Korea.

Washburn earned her degree in International Relations and Foreign Policy from the Naval Academy in 2009. She is currently enrolled in a distance learning sports industry management master’s program at Georgetown University.
