Kohl Orner joined the William & Mary women's soccer coaching staff in March 2025 as an assistant coach after spending the previous four seasons on staff at Slippery Rock (Pa.). Orner served multiple roles with The Rock, including interim head coach during the program's coaching transition.
In his first season in Williamsburg, Orner helped guide the Tribe to a 7-7-4 overall record and a 5-2-2 mark in CAA play as William & Mary earned a berth in the CAA Championship for the third time in the last four seasons. The Tribe posted a 7-2-1 record at Martin Family Stadium, its most home victories since 2014, and secured a postseason berth after winning five of its final seven regular-season matches.
William & Mary earned seven postseason honors from the CAA in 2025. Ellie Leffler was named the CAA Rookie of the Year and joined Mia Abbey and Gwen Doughty on the CAA All-Rookie Team. Abbey also earned Third Team All-CAA honors alongside Ivey Crain and Molly Widderich.
Freshman goalkeeper Gwen Doughty enjoyed a standout debut season, posting seven victories, five shutouts and a 1.16 goals-against average while earning CAA Rookie of the Week honors and All-Rookie Team recognition. The Tribe also placed six student-athletes on the CSC Academic All-District Team.
During his stint at Slippery Rock, Orner spent the majority of his time working with The Rock's defensive unit and goalkeepers with much success. He aided the program to a PSAC semifinal appearance in 2024, while three times mentoring a PSAC Defensive Player of the Week selection. The year prior, Orner's defensive unit held opponents to a PSAC-low 2.2 corners per game. During the 2022 season, SRU's backline posted 10 clean sheets, including a five-match stretch without allowing a goal. The Rock recorded nine shutouts in Orner's first season in 2021.
Prior to his stint in western Pennsylvania, Orner spent three seasons as an assistant coach at North Carolina Wesleyan. During the 2017 season, Orner was an assistant on the men's soccer staff at Averett University after beginning his coaching career with the women's program at Lebanon Valley College in 2016.
Orner was a two-year captain as a goalkeeper at Millersville University, starting 29 matches over those two seasons with the Marauders. He posted a career save percentage of .811 while allowing just 0.79 goals per game. The Lancaster, Pa., native earned All-PSAC and All-Atlantic Region honors in 2015 after helping lead Millersville to the NCAA Division II Tournament.
Orner graduated from Millersville in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in education. He earned a master's degree in education curriculum and instruction from Averett in 2019.
