Tyler Macy enters his second season as an assistant coach with the Tribe men's tennis program after joining the staff in August 2025.
In his first season in Williamsburg, Macy helped William & Mary advance to the CAA Championship semifinals after earning the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament. The Tribe finished 10-13 overall and closed the season winning three of its final four matches.
Highlighting the season was a historic 4-0 victory over No. 3 seed Campbell in the CAA Championship quarterfinals, marking the first time in tournament history that a No. 6 seed defeated a No. 3 seed. The Tribe finished the season ranked No. 10 in the ITA Atlantic Region.
William & Mary earned four All-CAA honors during the season. Gur Trakhtenberg garnered All-CAA First Team Singles recognition and teamed with Oliver Hague to earn All-CAA First Team Doubles honors. Hague also received All-CAA Second Team Singles distinction, while Nikita Bortnichek earned All-CAA Third Team Singles honors. The doubles team of Hague and Trakhtenberg finished the season ranked No. 7 in the ITA Atlantic Region, while Hague earned a No. 17 regional singles ranking. Off the court, Bortnichek and Albert Hansen were selected to the CSC Academic All-District Team.
Macy comes to Williamsburg after spending the previous season as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Gardner-Webb. He helped lead the Runnin' Bulldogs to a 20-5 record, the program's first Big South Tournament Championship, and a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The program finished the year ranked No. 8 in the Carolinas Region and No. 75 nationally after earning its first national ranking earlier in the season. Gardner-Webb produced both the Big South Freshman of the Year and Player of the Year in 2025.
Macy also spent time as a collegiate assistant at Virginia Wesleyan in Virginia Beach with both the men's and women's programs during the spring of 2020.
Along with his time as a collegiate assistant, Macy has nearly five years of experience as a director and tennis professional. Most recently, he spent two years as the Director of Court Sports at the Statesville Country Club and the Rock Barn Country Club and Spa in North Carolina from 2022-24.
He spent nearly two years at the Atlantic Beach Country Club in Atlantic Beach, Fla. Macy began his tenure at Atlantic Beach as a tennis professional before being elevated to head professional in 2022. Macy started his career as the head tennis professional at Bloomington Tennis Center in Illinois in 2019.
Macy earned his degree from Gardner-Webb in 2018 in business administration. In high school, he led his team to a North Carolina State Team Championship. Macy also won an individual state championship in 2012 and a doubles state title in 2013.
