Brendan Bourdage

  • Title
    Associate Head Coach
Brendan Bourdage was promoted to Associate Head Coach of the Tribe men's soccer program in May of 2017. In his 11th season in Williamsburg, he oversees W&M's goalkeeping efforts.

Over his 10 season, the Tribe own 73 victories, nine all-region selections, 36 All-CAA honorees and 15 CAA All-Rookie picks. Two of Bourdage's recent Tribe goalkeepers inked professional deals. Phil Breno, who graduated in 2018, started his third pro season after signing with Forward Madison FC in the USL League One. Kieran Baskett signed to play for the Halifax Wanderers FC of the Canadian Premier League in 2021.

In 2017, the Tribe captured its eighth CAA Championship, upending UNCW, 4-2, in the title match. W&M put together a 10-match unbeaten streak (7-0-3) at the end of the season, the longest since a school-record 18 in 1996. The Tribe also downed a pair of ACC opponents in N.C. State and Virginia Tech, both of which qualified for the NCAA Tournament. Norris earned the VaSID State Coach of the Year in 2010 as well. The Tribe hosted a first round NCAA Tournament at Martin Family Stadium for the fourth time in the previous 10 years and finished the campaign at 11-5-5.

The Tribe returned to the CAA Tournament and made a run to the CAA Championship match in 2016, Bourdage's fifth season. W&M won 12 matches in 2016, including a pair of five-game winning streaks. Mac Phillips and Breno combined for a 1.13 goals-against-average, 68 saves, and eight shutouts.

Bourdage helped oversee the Tribe’s return to the national stage in 2013. The Tribe reeled off 11 wins, appeared in the CAA Title match, and hosted a NCAA Tournament match. In addition, the Tribe also returned to the national rankings, while knocking off three ranked teams, including No. 1, twice, in a span of 10 days in September.

Prior to joining the Tribe, Bourdage oversaw goalkeeping at the University of Washington.  During the 2010 campaign, the Huskies surrendered just 17 goals on the season, which tied them for fewest allowed in the Pac-10.  Washington also had an impressive goal against average of 0.92, which stood at second best in the league.  His other responsibilities in the program included; recruiting, team fitness, video editing and operational planning.

Prior to his tenure at Washington, Bourdage was an assistant at Humboldt State University (2005-2010) for both the men and women's soccer programs.  During his time with the Jacks, Bourdage mentored women's goalkeeper Staci Self to a first- team All-California Collegiate Athletic Association distinction in 2006.  During the 2008 campaign, he helped guide men's goalkeeper Drew Ryan to first-team All-CCAA and second-team All-Far West accolades.  Bourdage's other duties consisted of coordinating the recruiting efforts of both programs, designing and implementing strength and conditioning workouts and monitoring academic progress.

Before coaching at Humboldt State, Bourdage was a Captain in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.  As an active duty soldier, Bourdage served tours in Kosovo (2001) and in Iraq, twice (2003 and 2007-08). During his time in the military, Bourdage was a member of the All-Armed Forces soccer team in 2004.

A native of Napa, California, Bourdage played his collegiate soccer at Santa Clara University (1996-99).  In 2000, while completing his degree in electrical engineering, Bourdage served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, working with the goalkeepers of the Bronco women's soccer team.  In 2010, he received a master's in kinesiology from Humboldt State.  He currently holds a U.S. Soccer Federation (USSF) A-Senior license.
