Biography

By the end of his third year at William & Mary, Mat had not only graduated with a degree in mathematics but he had also managed to publish four papers with respect to his work. His first published paper was on semi-positive matrices through the Research Experience for Undergraduates sponsored by the National Science Foundation. His second appeared in the Checkloslovak Mathematical Journal while his final two came out of his undergraduate honor thesis entitled, “Normal Matrices Subordinate to a Graph”. He is now working on a graduate degree in operations research…Rings will be the mainstay of Mat’s final gymnastics season as his strength, swing, and dismount work fall into place. He has been a critical leader in the development of our rings team as evidenced by his serving as our squad captain last season…Mat has been designated a Monroe Scholar and Provost Award recipient at William & Mary while earning first team Academic All-American Scholar-Athlete honors from the College Gymnastics Association. In the process, he has helped lead our gymnastics team to three straight finishes as the National Academic Champions for men’s gymnastics while displaying his distinctive sense of humor and ever present smile… Brock Anstine was his coach at the Southwest Training Center in the Phoenix area…He is the son of Stuart and Susan Turnansky.
