Ed Teer

After seven years as an assistant coach for William & Mary golf, Ed Teer takes the reins of the W&M women's golf team officially for the first time in 2021-22.  Teer has served as the unofficial head women's coach since 2015-16, and led the Tribe to new heights in that span.  He is the first head women's golf coach for W&M since 1999, when the Tribe combined the men's and women's programs, and the 11th head coach in program history.

Teer's guidance as the leader of the Tribe program saw Mikah McDonnell make her way into the William & Mary record books in the 2023-24 season. The five-time letterwinner completed her W&M career ranked seventh in program history in career rounds played with 95, all coming with Teer as the head coach. The team's 308.54 scoring average in 2023-24 was the seventh best in program history, highlighted by seven top-10 finishes and a pair of top-5's.

The 2020-21 season saw W&M persevere through uncertain schedules and health advisories to record another customarily strong campaign.  The Tribe recorded a fifth-place finish at its own Kingsmill Intercollegiate, and also finished just outside the top-25 at Kiawah Island.  Individually, Sarah Houle recorded the 12th-best scoring average in school history (76.27) with three top-10 finishes in five events.  Her head-to-head record on the year, 237-31 (.884), was the third-best ever in a single season at W&M.  Cindy Zhou and Allison Olberding tied for the win in a dual-match with Richmond, and each of the team's top five players had at least one top-10 showing on the year.  At the end of the year, Houle was named second-team All-CAA, becoming the first W&M player so honored since 2018.

Despite the shortened season because of the CoVID-19 pandemic, the Tribe recorded the best score in school history at 303.76 during the 2019-20 season. For the second straight season, the Tribe women were team champs at the Hound Ears Intercollegiate. W&M posted a 59-35 record, and placed 16th at the Kiawah Island Classic, one of the biggest events in women's college golf.

The Tribe had a great fall season in 2018-19, which saw them have three-top 10 finishes, including winning the 2018 Hound Ears Intercollegiate. Individually, junior Allison Olberding earned a spot on the CAA All-Tournament team after placing fifth in the 2019 CAA Tournament with a 228 (+12).

The success of the Tribe women's golf team continued in 2017-18, as the Tribe recorded its second-best team scoring average of 306.11 strokes per round. W&M finished in the top five of four tournaments this season, on its way to an 80-67 (.544) record. Individually, Elizabeth Choi was named to the All-CAA second-team after finishing 10th in the CAA Championship and averaging a 76.00 stroke per round score this season. Teer also helped guide Katie Edelblut, who led the team with a 75.81 stroke per round score, and rounded her career with the second-best scoring average in school history (76.61).

In 2016-17, Teer guided the Tribe to a successful season. W&M placed sixth in the CAA Championship, but also had individual success. Both junior Katie Edelblut and sophomore Elizabeth Choi each won their first-ever tournament. Edelblut also went on to claim Second-Team All-CAA honors and CAA All-Academic honors.

Teer's responsibilities shifted to manage the Tribe women's golf program in 2015-16 and it was one of the best seasons in school history. W&M placed third in the CAA Championship after a strong final day at the event. Senior Alessandra Liu had arguably the best season in school history winning CAA Golfer of the Year, VaSID State Golfer of the Year, CAA Golf Scholar Athlete of the Year, CoSIDA Third-Team Academic All-America honors. She became the first W&M player to earn a selection as an individual to the NCAA Regional after winning four events, and posting eight top-five finishes.

In his first season, Teer worked with both the men's and women's golf teams. The Tribe men had a great season as they placed second in the CAA Championship. Individually, Alex Hicks was named to the conference's first-team after having a pair of top-five finishes and six top-10 finishes. The women were led by junior Alessandra Liu, who won her first event. As a team, they placed fifth in the CAA Championship, while Liu was named to the CAA First-Team.

Teer joins the Tribe after running his golf academy at Williamsburg National Golf Club for the past seven years.  He has coached players of all ages and abilities and while he takes great pride in all his student’s successes, nothing brings him more joy than working with junior golfers.  Teer’s Academy offers the area’s only year-round junior development program for 4 years old and up.  In four years the program has produced wins at the US Kids Local Tour, local and state junior tours, many high school medalists, three collegiate scholarship players, and two individual college tournament medalists.

Teer’s academy focuses on performance coaching, helping players improve their ball striking skills, develop their peak state of performance, and improve their on-course decision making.  He also provides club fitting, club alteration, and club repair.

Teer is a certified U.S. Kid’s Junior Golf Instructor, New Rules Golf Certified, Vector Putter Certified, and utilizes the FlightScope 3D-Doppler Launch Monitor.  He played college golf at Wayne State University in Detroit, Mich., and has competed in MAPGA and VSGA tournaments, and in many pro-ams.

Teer graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from Wayne State University and a Master’s Degree in Fine Arts from Ohio University.  He lives in Williamsburg with his wife Francie and their children, Jacob and Sadie.
