After making an immediate and significant impact on William & Mary’s secondary as a defensive assistant last season, Marvin Clecidor enters his second year as a member of the Tribe’s staff. Additionally, he was promoted to Special Teams Coordinator prior to the 2016 season.
During his initial season at the College, Clecidor helped mentor one of the nation’s top players at any level in DeAndre Houston-Carson as the standout successfully transitioned from cornerback to free safety. En route to being selected as the 2015 Colonial Athletic Association co-Defensive Player of the Year and garnering consensus first-team All-America honors, Houston-Carson was drafted in the sixth round by the Chicago Bears.
Houston-Caron was one of two defensive backs Clecidor helped earn all-league distinction, as cornerback Trey Reed was named to the All-CAA Second Team.
Clecidor joined the Tribe’s staff after serving as the secondary coach and director of player development and personnel at Monmouth University the previous three seasons. During his tenure with the Hawks, he helped develop cornerback Tevrin Brandon, a New York Jets signee, as well as first-team all-conference safety Mike Basile.
Prior to his tenure at Monmouth, Clecidor worked as a defensive graduate assistant at Rutgers during the 2011 season and helped the Scarlet Knights post a 9-4 record. The impressive campaign ended with a victory in the New Era Pinstripe Bowl. Among the players who benefited from his tutelage were first-team All-Big East safety Duron Harmon and second-team All-Big East cornerback Logan Ryan.
Clecidor’s other coaching stops include one-year stints at Wagner College (2010) and Wilkes University (2009). At Wagner, he coached cornerbacks and helped develop a pair of all-conference standouts, while the Seahawks ranked 15th nationally in pass defense in 2010.
A three-year starter as a defensive back at Lafayette College (2005-09), Clecidor helped the Leopards earn back-to-back Patriot League championships in 2005 and 2006. The two-time all-conference selection (2007, 2008) finished his career with 114 tackles and four interceptions, while he ranked second in the league in pass breakups as a junior.
Clecidor graduated from Lafayette with a bachelor’s degree in 2009, while he earned a MBA from Wagner in 2012.
Clecidor is responsible for the Tribe’s recruiting efforts in Florida, Southeastern Pennsylvania, South Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
