Acting as a student host is an important service to the College of William & Mary and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. Appropriate conduct is expected of you with regard to College and NCAA standards.
- You must be enrolled as a full-time student to act as a student host.
- You may receive up to $40.00 per day to entertain a prospect. You may be provided an additional $20.00 per day for each additional prospect that you host during that time.
- The normal retail value shall be assessed against the $40-per-day entertainment and if such normal retail costs exceed the allowance, such entertainment may not be provided (e.g. Student-athlete cannot offer to pay for himself or ask prospect to split the difference of the entertainment value that exceeds the $40 per day cost).
- You may not give cash to the visiting prospect or anyone else accompanying the prospect.
- You may not use the entertainment funds to purchase or otherwise provide the prospect with gifts of value (e.g. souvenirs, clothing, hats or other mementos).
- You may not use vehicles provided or arranged for by a William & Mary employee or booster.
- You may not transport the prospect or anyone accompanying the prospect more than 30 miles from campus.
- You may not allow recruiting conversations to occur, on or off-campus, between the prospect and a booster. If an unplanned meeting occurs, only exchange of greetings is permissible. Remember, parents of current William & Mary student-athletes are considered boosters and cannot be involved in the recruiting process.
- You may receive a complimentary meal(s) while accompanying the prospect. Any other student-athletes in attendance at the meal(s) must pay their own expenses.
- You may allow the prospect to participate in voluntary activities involving your sport, provided the activity was in no way arranged by or observed by the coaching staff. These activities must occur in facilities that are open to the general student population (e.g. the prospect is not permitted to utilize the varsity weight room).
- ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES SHOULD NOT BE PURCHASED FOR OR PROVIDED TO ANY PROSPECT DURING AN OFFICIAL VISIT.Â
Please consult with your coach or the Compliance Office if you have any questions.
