Second Positive Test

Table of Contents

  1. The Student-Athlete will meet with the Assistant Athletic Director for Internal Operations to discuss the consequences.
  2. The Student-Athlete will be immediately suspended for 20% of the competitions during the championship season of his/her sport. If there is not 20% of the championship season left, the suspension will carry over and be applied to the beginning of the next championship season. If the Student-Athlete tests positive during the non-championship segment, the suspension will start with the first competition of the next championship season. Under this penalty the Student-Athlete may not participate in any game day activities including pregame meals, sidelines access, travel etc. However, the Student-Athlete may still practice and attend strength/conditioning sessions with the team.
  3. The Student-Athlete will be required to seek treatment/rehabilitation in an off-campus counseling center at the Student-Athlete’s expense. This counseling center will be agreed upon by the Associate Athletic Director of Internal Operations and the Student-Athlete. The Student-Athlete must give consent to the counseling agency to release information to the Athletics Department regarding compliance with appointments.
  4. The counseling agency will notify the Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations when the Student-Athlete has completed the program or has missed appointments or is noncompliant in any other way. Missed appointment and/or noncompliance will be deemed a third positive test.
  5. At the conclusion of treatment/rehabilitation program, the Student-Athlete will undergo another drug test at the Student-Athlete’s expense. A positive result will automatically advance the Student-Athlete to the third positive test stage.
  6. The Student-Athlete may be drug tested on a monthly basis, at his/her expense, for the next year after the retest that occurred following the off campus treatment/rehabilitation program. Upon receipt of any positive test, the Student-Athlete will immediately be advanced to the third positive test stage.
  7. A Head Coach at his/her discretion may impose additional sanctions. Sanctions will be specified in team rules established at the beginning of each academic year and will be communicated to each Student-Athlete listed on the active roster.
