  1. The Student-Athlete will meet with the Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations to discuss the violation and the consequences, as stated within this policy. The Student-Athlete will be referred to an appropriate and agreed upon counseling agency for evaluation and treatment plan recommendations. The Student-Athlete will have one week to set up an appointment and will have a follow up meeting with the Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations.
  2. The Associate Athletic Director of Internal Operations will be notified by the chosen counseling agency if a Student-Athlete fails to attend a scheduled appointment and on completion of counseling. The Student-Athlete will have to get prior approval to be excused from counseling or show proof of emergency to excuse a missed appointment. The Student-Athlete must give consent to the counseling agency to release information to the Athletics Department regarding compliance with appointments.
  3.  If the Student-Athlete fails to comply with the terms of the scheduled counseling, the Student-Athlete will advance to the second positive test stage.
  4. At the conclusion of counseling, the Student-Athlete will undergo a retest. If the Student-Athlete tests positive on the retest he/she will be moved to the second positive test stage.
  5. The Student-Athlete will undergo unannounced drug testing for up to a year after the retest, as long the Student-Athlete remains enrolled at the College of William & Mary. Any positive results in this year period will automatically advance the Student-Athlete to the second positive test stage.
  6. A Head Coach at his/her discretion may impose additional sanctions. Sanctions will be specified in team rules established at the beginning of each academic year and will be communicated to each Student-Athlete listed on the active roster.
