NCAA regulations state that an athletic scholarship is awarded for a minimum of one year. At William and Mary individuals who satisfy all team, college, conference and NCAA rules for continuance and standards of conduct may be recommended by their Head Coach for annual renewal of their grant-in-aid for up to eight semesters of enrollment. In special situations, if the student-athlete has eligibility remaining or has not completed his or her undergraduate degree, a student may request assistance for a ninth and tenth semester. The student must make an official request to their respective head coach. If the head coach approves the request, he/she will forward the request to the Athletic Director for final review and approval. In cases where the student-athlete has completed his or her undergraduate degree, request for additional semester(s) of athletic grant-in-aid to enroll in postgraduate school must be in conjunction with participation in a final season of eligibility during the term of the award.
