Renewals and Non-Renewals

Table of Contents

Notification of renewal or nonrenewal of an athletic grant-in-aid must be issued by July 1st prior to the year in which the grant-in-aid is to be effective. Renewal of an athletic grant-in-aid will require the student-athlete to sign an annual financial agreement and return it to the athletics department prior to the start of the subsequent fall semester. A student-athlete may appeal any decision of nonrenewal and must be provided with a campus hearing. To initiate an appeal, email the NCAA Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) at saappeal@wm.edu. The FAR will forward the appeal to Associate Provost for Enrollment, who chairs the Hearing Committee.

A William and Mary athletic grant-in-aid may not be renewed if a student-athlete fails to meet the continuance or progress toward degree standards set by the College or the NCAA. An athletic grant-in-aid may not be renewed if a student-athlete fails to meet team standards of conduct.

In limited and rare instances athletic aid may be continued for an individual who is eligible to compete but is declared permanently ineligible to compete due to injury or other extenuating circumstance (e.g. Medical Exemption). To receive aid the student must agree to work 160 hours per semester (average of 11-12 hours per week) for the athletic department in lieu of participation.
