Varsity Letter Awards
Each sport has established criteria for earning a varsity letter award. A jacket or framed W&M letter is awarded following the first year that an individual meets the lettering requirements. Talk to the head coach for sport specific lettering requirements.
Departmental Special Recognition Awards
Tribe Club Outstanding Senior Athlete Award - awarded to the outstanding senior male and female athlete based on their overall contribution to the athletic program.
Martha Barksdale Memorial Award - awarded to a rising senior female scholar/athlete who also possesses strong leadership qualities and has performed with distinction in her sport. Nominees must have a minimum GPA of a 3.25. The recipient receives an athletic grant for her senior year of $1,000.
Bruce Davidson Memorial Award - awarded to a rising senior male scholar/athlete who also possesses strong leadership qualities and has performed with distinction in his sport. Nominees must have a minimum GPA of a 3.25. The recipient receives an athletic grant for his senior year of approximately $1,000.
Robert Madison Usry Award - awarded to the varsity sport letter winner possessing the highest grade point average at the end of the junior year. The recipient must have satisfied 75% of the degree requirements in one of 8 predetermined areas of concentration. Individual receives an athletic grant for the senior year equivalent to the endowment value.
President's Award - awarded to the individual from each sport that best exemplifies citizenship,
sportsmanship and leadership, e.g., the 'person who makes the team tick'. The selection procedure is at the discretion of the Head Coach. Individuals receive a certificate and recognition at the year-end event.
