Men's Soccer in the Pros

The William & Mary men's soccer program has a rich tradition of developing talent and sending its players into the professional ranks both within the United States and abroad. The Tribe has sent 39 players into the professional ranks, including 20 student-athletes drafted by professional leagues or signed homegrown deals with Major League Soccer. Of those players that have gone on to play professionally, 10 were drafted or signed a homegrown deal into the top division in the United States' Major League Soccer (MLS).

Currently, seven former Tribe student-athletes are competing at the professional level. After inking a homegrown MLS deal with D.C. United in 2019, Anotnio Bustamante has played in the United States, Bolivia, Brazil and currently plays for B.93 in the Danish Second Division. He competed for the Bolivia Under 23 National team in Olympic qualifying in 2020 and in World Cup Qualifying for the Bolivian National Team in 2021. Both Phil Breno, in his fifth season, and Diba Nwegbo play in the USL Championship with the Tampa Bay Rowdies and Legion FC, respectively. Kieran Baskett is in his third pro season in the Canadian Premier League with Pacific FC. William Eskay and Marcel Berry both play for the St. Louis Ambush in the Major Arena Soccer League. Andrew Hoxie is in his 13th season in the MASL with Harrisburg Heat.

A trio of the Tribe's most heralded pros includes former MLS first-round selections, Wade Barrett, Adin Brown and Steve Jolley. Barrett, who achieved success both within the U.S. and abroad in professional soccer, won three MLS Cup Championships, while playing with the San Jose Earthquakes in 2001 and the Houston Dynamo in 2006 and 2007. He captained the Dynamo to those back-to-back titles. Over his nine-year MLS career, Barrett appeared in 241 matches with 234 starts and finished his career with six goals and 29 assists. Along with his success in the MLS, Barrett made appearances for the United States on both the youth and senior levels. He earned caps with the U.S. Men's National Team in 2002 and 2006 along with attending training camp in 2005.

Jolley, who retired from professional soccer following the 2006 season, is the longest-tenured Tribe player in MLS. He spent 10 seasons in the league with the Los Angeles Galaxy, the New York-New Jersey Metrostars, the Dallas Burn, FC Dallas and Red Bull New York. He played in 227 career games with 206 starts in MLS and had 12 goals and 11 assists. His 120 games with New York ranked as the third most by a single player in the franchise's history when he retired.

Brown enjoyed a six-year career in the MLS with the Colorado Rapids, Tampa Bay Mutiny, New England Revolution and Portland Timbers. He moved abroad and played in Norway with Aalesunds FK from 2004-09. He has been named the club's player of the year in 2006 and 2007 and was a finalist for the Norwegian Second Division Player of the Year in 2006. Brown spent in final two pro seasons in Portland in 2010 and 2011.

Carlos Garcia and Hoxie both enjoyed successful professional careers with the Baltimore Blast and in indoor soccer. Garcia helped the Balitmore Blast to three MISL Championships (2003-04, 2005-06, and 2007-08). In 2006, Garcia recorded his 100th career game played as well as his 100th career point in MISL play. Hoxie, a former third-round MLS pick (37th overall) of the San Jose Earthquakes, helped the Baltimore Blast capture three-straight MASL crowns from 2016-18.
