WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary men's soccer continues its road swing Saturday evening, traveling to Baltimore, Md., for a nonconference matchup against UMBC.

Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. The contest will be the Tribe's fourth road match of the season.

THE TRIBE. William & Mary enters Saturday at 2-3-1 overall and 1-1-1 in CAA play following a 2-1 setback at UNCW last weekend.

Sophomore Alex Garrison gave the Tribe a 1-0 lead in the 54th minute against the Seahawks, becoming the first player to score against UNCW this season. Freshman Aidan Gatchell and junior Thor Sigurjonsson assisted on the tally.

W&M has scored 14 goals through six matches, averaging 2.33 per contest. The Tribe has scored nine of its 14 goals in the second half and put 28 of its 69 shots on goal.

GARRISON GETS HIS THIRD. Garrison's goal at UNCW was his third of the season, moving the sophomore into a tie with freshman Brown Huffard for the team lead.

Garrison and Huffard also share the team lead with seven points apiece. Garrison has scored three times on eight shots, placing five attempts on goal, while Huffard has three goals on six shots and has put four on frame. Each has also recorded an assist and a game-winning goal.

FRESHMAN FACILITATOR. Gatchell picked up his third assist of the season on Garrison's goal against UNCW, moving the freshman into a tie with senior Gabe Ruitenberg for the team lead.

Gatchell has recorded five points on a goal and three assists through his first six collegiate matches. Ruitenberg has also totaled five points with a goal and three helpers.

Sigurjonsson also collected his first assist and point of the season on Garrison's goal against the Seahawks.

SHARING THE WEALTH. William & Mary has received goals from eight different players through six matches.

Garrison and Huffard lead the way with three goals apiece, while Ruitenberg, Gatchell, Damen Burney, Kai Feng, Beckham Harris and Evan Rabush have each found the back of the net. The Tribe has also been credited with two team goals.

W&M has recorded 14 assists on its 14 goals this season.

DIEGO IN NET. Diego Garciarena enters Saturday with 26 saves through six matches after making seven stops at UNCW.

The senior owns a .667 save percentage and has played 539:38 of W&M's 540 minutes this season. Garciarena recorded his first shutout with the Tribe in a 2-0 victory over College of Charleston on Sept. 5, a performance that earned him CAA Defensive Player of the Week honors.

ON THE ROAD. The Tribe will look for its first road victory of the season Saturday after going 0-2-1 through its first three away matches.

W&M earned a 1-1 draw at Elon and suffered setbacks at George Mason and UNCW. The Tribe's most recent road victory came on Nov. 2, 2024, when W&M earned a 2-0 win at Stony Brook.

THE RETRIEVERS. UMBC enters Saturday at 3-2-1 overall and has been strong at home with a 3-1 record.

The Retrievers are coming off a 2-0 home victory over Howard on Tuesday. UMBC also owns home wins over Loyola Maryland, 3-2, and Presbyterian, 5-1, while its lone home setback came against George Washington.

UMBC has scored 11 goals through six matches and is averaging 18 shots per contest. The Retrievers have outshot their opponents 108-54, including a 53-23 advantage in the first half.

Abdul Kamara leads the Retrievers with three goals and six points, while Flynn Holdem and Gunder Miller have scored twice apiece. Miller has attempted a team-high 16 shots. Abdi Bahur leads UMBC with two assists.

TRIBE VS. RETRIEVERS. William & Mary is unbeaten in seven all-time meetings against UMBC, holding a 4-0-3 advantage in the series.

The programs played to a 1-1 draw last season at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field on Sept. 6.

NONCONFERENCE ACTION. Saturday marks W&M's fourth nonconference contest of the season.

The Tribe is 1-2 outside CAA play, earning a 4-1 home victory over Radford while suffering setbacks against Longwood and George Mason.

UMBC will be W&M's first nonconference opponent since its Aug. 27 trip to George Mason.

WHAT'S NEXT. William & Mary remains on the road for a midweek matchup at Old Dominion on Tuesday, Sept. 22. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. in Norfolk, Va.

The Tribe then returns to Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field on Saturday, Sept. 26, hosting Campbell in CAA action at 6 p.m. for Senior Day and GKC Day.
