WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary begins the 2026 campaign this weekend as it travels to Virginia Tech for the Hokie Invitational in Blacksburg, Va. The tournament kicks off with a doubleheader against Coppin State (1 p.m.) and Virginia Tech (6:30 p.m.) on Friday followed by a matchup against Kent State on Saturday at 11 a.m.

COACHING DEBUT
This weekend marks the head coaching debut of Kellie Catanach Johnson, who was named the program's 11th head coach in December 2025. Johnson comes to the Tribe from Duke, where she spent the past seven seasons as an assistant coach including the previous four as associate head coach. Johnson had a decorated playing career at Duke from 2008-11, earning three All-American honors and helping guide the Blue Devils to four NCAA appearances and two ACC Championships. The Tampa, Fla. native was the 2010 ACC Player of the Year and finished her career ranked ninth in assists in ACC history.
PRESEASON LAURELS
Two Tribe players earned preseason recognition from the league as senior opposite hitter
Katherine Arnason earning Preseason All-CAA honors while graduate libero
Avery Horejsi was an honorable mention selection.
Arnason had 250 kills last season which ranked second on the team. She averaged 2.53 kills per set while racking up 76.0 blocks and 298.0 points. The Marine on St. Croix, Minn. native also posted a .234 hitting percentage.
Horejsi had a highly productive first season in Williamsburg, finishing third in the CAA in digs (455) and digs per set (4.60). Both figures rank second-most in a single season during the modern scoring era (2008-present).
It marks the fourth straight year the Tribe has had representation on the Preseason All-CAA squad, equaling the program's longest streak set from 2008-11.
BRICK IS BACK
Audrey Brcka also returns to the fold in 2026. The senior led the team in kills (268) and points (309.0) last season. Her points total ranks sixth among returning CAA players.
KNOWING THE NEWCOMERS
The Tribe added seven newcomers to its 2026 roster: five freshmen (
Ava Crabtree,
Regan Hill,
Erika Larson,
Emily McKee, and
Teagan Pocius) along with two transfers,
Ally Bolden (UC Irvine) and
Maya De Los Reyes (Oregon).
De Los Reyes is the most experienced of the group as she appeared in 48 games for Oregon from 2022-25. She was part of a Ducks program that went 96-33 over four years and qualified for the NCAA Tournament three times, including an Elite Eight appearance in 2022.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Coppin State won the MEAC regular season and tournament championship last season, going 23-12 and 13-1 in conference play. The Eagles were picked to finish first in the preseason poll by the league's coaches. They are led by MEAC Preseason Player of the Year Coco Figueroa, a senior libero, along with Preseason All-MEAC middle blocker Kayden Cupid.
Virginia Tech went 12-19 last season including a 4-16 record in the ACC. The Hokies were picked last in the ACC preseason poll. Kent State had an 8-21 overall record and a 3-15 mark in the MAC.
