RICHMOND, Va. – The William & Mary lacrosse team fell at VCU, 20-11, on Wednesday afternoon.
W&M (3-3) trailed by just two, 7-5, late in the first half, but the Rams (4-2) broke the game open with a 5-0 run that spanned the second and third quarters.
The Tribe narrowed the margin to five goals on multiple occasions but was unable to get any closer the rest of the way.
Grace Walter led W&M with a career-high five points (4g, 1a) to go with two ground balls and a caused turnover, while
Maresa Moyer also posted a hat trick with a pair of caused turnovers.
Taylor McCall added two points (1g, 1a) with six draw controls and two ground balls, while
Kate Draddy also tallied six draw controls as she moved into third on W&M's career list (154).
W&M was outstanding on the draw circle (20-13) but committed five more turnovers (16-11) than the Rams.
VCU outshot W&M, 28-25, including a 24-15 margin on goal, and owned a 12-9 edge in ground balls.
Rachel Koeneke led the Rams with nine points (5g, 4a), while Sam Palmer (4g) and Kenson Epperly (3g, 2a) also provided offensive production.
W&M will return to action when it hosts Xavier at Martin Family Stadium on Sunday at 12 p.m.
