WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary lacrosse team fell to Towson, 10-6, at Martin Family Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
W&M (5-4, 1-1) utilized a 4-1 run midway through the first half to build an early 5-3 lead, but Towson (4-6, 2-0) limited the Tribe to just one goal during the final 38:49 en route to securing the conference victory.
Taylor McCall led W&M offensively and scored five of the Tribe's six goals, while she also added a pair of draw controls.
Kate Draddy led W&M on the draw circle and equaled her season high with seven draw controls.
Finley Hoffman (2 CT, 4 GB),
Nora Begley (2 CT, 2 GB),
Jaylin Locke (2CT, 1 GB) and
Molly Delaney (2CT) all came up big defensively with multiple caused turnovers, as W&M held Towson to just four goals during the first half and scoreless during the fourth quarter. With her effort, Locke moved into a tie for eighth on W&M's career list for caused turnovers (55).
W&M outshot TU, 24-22, which included a 17-16 edge in attempts on goal.
The Tribe also owned a 10-8 advantage in draw controls, which included a 9-3 margin in the second and third quarters, while it committed one fewer turnover (16-17).
Towson owed a 20-19 edge in ground balls.
Hannah Lewis led the Tigers with a hat trick, while Katie Roszko totaled a team-high five points (2g, 3a).
Emma Baker added at team-high five draw controls, while goalie Jenna Cardeno recorded 11 saves and a .647 save percentage.
W&M will return to non-conference action when it plays a neutral site game (Gainesville, Va.) versus UMBC on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
