CHARLESTON, S.C. — William & Mary women's basketball (13-13, 6-9 CAA) fell to Charleston (22-4, 14-1 CAA), 70-48, at TD Arena on Friday.
William & Mary started the game with precision from the perimeter, as
Cassidy Geddes connected on a 3-pointer at 8:55 to open the scoring. The team maintained composure, equalizing the score at 10-10 with a layup from
Dynasti Pierce at 4:04. Despite their efforts, turnovers hindered momentum, and the Cougars took advantage, closing the quarter with a narrow 16-13 lead.
William & Mary made a strong push in the second quarter, led by
Marley Long's layup at 3:58 that tied the game at 21.
Monet Dance followed with a three-pointer at 2:23, giving the Green and Gold a brief one-point lead. The Cougars responded and took a 28-26 lead at the half.
At the onset of the third frame
Natalie Fox contributed a pair of layups, supported by assists from Dance, helping to keep the team competitive. However, CoC capitalized on some defensive stops extending its lead, ending the quarter with a 24-8 run. The quarter concluded with Cougars ahead, 52-34.
Dance ignited W&M's fourth quarter with a three-pointer at 9:31, aided by an assist from
Alexa Mikeska. Geddes contributed with a layup at 8:51, narrowing the gap to 52-39. Despite a brief surge, the Tribe struggled to keep pace as the Cougars maintained their lead.
Ari Mercado later hit a three-pointer at 5:56, but the team was unable to close the deficit further. The game concluded with CoC securing a 70-48 victory.
Geddes scored 14 points, converting six of her 14 field goal attempts and adding four rebounds while Mikeska posted a team-high five assists. Dance tallied eight points and collected three steals, demonstrating defensive effectiveness. Long finished with six points and eight rebounds, including five on the defensive end.
The Tribe wraps up its weekend road trip with a visit to UNCW on Sunday. The game will tip at 1 p.m. on FloCollege.
