WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary women's soccer begins a three-match road swing this week with a pair of CAA contests in New York, traveling to Hofstra on Thursday, Oct. 8, before visiting Stony Brook on Sunday, Oct. 11.
Thursday's match in Hempstead, N.Y., is set for 7 p.m., while Sunday's contest in Stony Brook, N.Y., will kick off at 1 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on FloCollege.
THE TRIBE. William & Mary enters the week at 3-5-3 overall and 2-1-1 in CAA play after earning back-to-back victories for the first time this season. The Tribe sits tied for second in the CAA South Division with seven points, one point behind UNCW.
W&M closed its three-match homestand with consecutive victories over Drexel and Campbell. The Green and Gold rolled to a 4-0 win over the Dragons before defeating the Camels, 2-1, on Friday night.
Through 11 matches, William & Mary has scored 19 goals on 143 shots, putting 70 attempts on goal. The Tribe has also generated 71 corner kicks while allowing 48.
MAGNUSON SWEEPS CAA HONORS. Freshman Ava Magnuson was named the CAA Co-Offensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week on Monday following her two-goal performance against Campbell.
Magnuson became the first freshman to earn both CAA Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week honors in the same week since UNCW's Morgan Nanni on Sept. 3, 2018.
The Sutton, Mass., native scored twice in a span of less than seven minutes against the Camels, recording the first multi-goal performance of her collegiate career. She opened the scoring in the 24th minute before finding the back of the net again in the 31st.
Magnuson has scored three goals over the Tribe's last two matches and four over the last four. She is tied for the team lead with four goals and ranks second on the team with nine points. She has put 11 of her 17 shots on goal and has scored two game-winning goals.
The weekly awards were the first of Magnuson's collegiate career.
ABBEY PACES THE OFFENSE. Sophomore midfielder Mia Abbey leads William & Mary with 12 points on four goals and a team-high four assists.
Abbey has recorded a team-best 38 shots, including 19 on goal. She has registered a point in each of the Tribe's last two victories, recording a goal and an assist against Drexel before adding an assist on Magnuson's opening goal against Campbell.
Magnuson and Abbey share the team lead with four goals, while sophomore Ellie Leffler has added three. Senior's Lindsay Wilson and Paige Seitz have scored twice apiece.
BUILDING MOMENTUM. William & Mary enters Thursday looking for its third consecutive victory after defeating Drexel and Campbell at home.
The Tribe outscored the two opponents, 6-3, during the homestand, including its first shutout of the season in the 4-0 victory over Drexel.
Junior goalkeeper Mia Tegeris has played 720 minutes this season and owns a 1.25 goals-against average with 28 saves and a .737 save percentage. She is 3-3-1 in goal and recorded the first shutout of her collegiate career against Drexel.
THE PRIDE. Hofstra enters Thursday at 3-5-4 overall and is unbeaten in CAA play at 2-0-2. The Pride is coming off a 2-1 road victory over Northeastern on Sunday and has not lost in its last five matches.
Hofstra has scored 13 goals through 12 matches while averaging 10.1 shots per contest. The Pride has generated 57 corner kicks and allowed 30.
Amy Meadows leads Hofstra with 10 points on four goals and two assists. Emma Johnson has added three goals and an assist for seven points, while Alexia Bromfield has scored twice. Hailey Moschitta leads the Pride with 34 shots and 16 attempts on goal.
Lilly Bailey has played every minute in goal for Hofstra, recording 29 saves with a 1.42 goals-against average. She has posted one shutout this season.
TRIBE VS. PRIDE. William & Mary holds a 13-10-4 advantage in the all-time series against Hofstra.
The teams last met on Oct. 20, 2024, when Hofstra earned a 2-0 victory in Williamsburg.
W&M's most recent victory in the series came in Hempstead on Sept. 28, 2023, when the Tribe earned a 1-0 road win.
THE SEAWOLVES. Stony Brook enters the week at 4-2-5 overall and 1-2-1 in CAA play. The Seawolves host Hampton on Thursday, Oct. 8, before welcoming the Tribe on Sunday.
Stony Brook suffered a 4-0 setback at Towson on Sunday after playing Campbell to a scoreless draw in its previous match. The Seawolves are unbeaten at home this season with a 3-0-2 record.
Stony Brook has scored 17 goals through 11 matches and averages 15.4 shots per contest. The Seawolves have put 67 of their 169 attempts on goal.
Emily Lemke leads the Stony Brook attack with six goals and 13 points. Hedvig Helling ranks second on the team with eight points on three goals and two assists, while Emanuelly Ferreira and Leah Rifas have scored twice apiece.
Jona Hennings has played 945 minutes in goal, recording a 1.24 goals-against average, 47 saves and a .783 save percentage. Stony Brook has recorded five shutouts as a team.
TRIBE VS. SEAWOLVES. William & Mary is 0-1-1 all-time against Stony Brook.
The programs have not met since 2023, when the Seawolves earned a 4-0 victory in Stony Brook, N.Y.
