Football Falls to Holy Cross, 41-14

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary football team fell to Holy Cross, 41-14, at Zable Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
 
The contest was knotted at 7-7 early after W&M quarterback Winston Watkins connected on a 75-yard touchdown strike to wide receiver Khylil Johnson on W&M's first offensive play from scrimmage, but the Tribe's only other score came late in the third quarter on a 28-yard touchdown pass from Watkins to wideout Kai Austin.

Following Johnson's 75-yard touchdown catch, Holy Cross (2-4, 2-2) scored 24 unanswered points to open up a 31-7 lead early in the second half and then outscored the Tribe 10-0 during the fourth quarter to earn the road conference victory.
 
Watkins finished the contest completing 15-of-29 passes for 210 yards with two touchdowns, while Austin totaled four receptions for 58 yards with his score. Johnson added a pair of catches for 82 yards with his long touchdown and is now averaging 24.5 yards per catch this season.
 
Linebacker Elijah Rainer led the Tribe (2-4, 1-3) defensively with a career-high 13 tackles and a fumble recovery, while safety Cade Ellis posted a career-best nine stops and a TFL.
 
Safety Jaden Ratliff registered a career-high eight tackles with a forced fumble, while safety David Roulley added an interception. Defensive lineman Davin Dzidzienyo tallied four stops and 1.5 sacks.
 
HC quarterback David Lynch punctuated the Crusaders' opening drives of both halves with touchdown passes to wideout Ty Curran, while running backs Joseph Williams (111 yards, TD), Datrell Jones (77 yards, TD) and Jake Croce (21 yards, TD) combined for 209 rushing yards and three scores.
 
The Crusaders outgained W&M, 389-251, which included a 203-31 advantage on the ground.
 
The Tribe will return to action when it concludes its non-conference slate at NC Central next Saturday at 1 p.m.
