RICHMOND, Va. — William & Mary men's soccer freshman Aidan Gatchell was named the CAA Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday.
The honor is the first weekly conference award of Gatchell's career after helping the Tribe to a 4-0 victory over Howard on Thursday evening.
Gatchell recorded the first multi-goal game of his collegiate career, finishing with a career-high five points on two goals and an assist. The freshman opened the scoring in the 18th minute, giving W&M an early 1-0 advantage.
He added an assist on Brown Huffard's goal in the 59th minute before finding the back of the net again in the 70th minute to extend the Tribe's lead to 3-0.
Gatchell has scored three goals over his last two matches and leads the Green and Gold with 16 points on five goals. He is also tied with senior Gabe Ruitenberg for the team lead with six assists.
His performance helped William & Mary secure its sixth victory of the year, the program's most since winning seven games in 2021.
William & Mary returns to action Tuesday, Oct. 13, hosting Navy at Martin Family Stadium at Albert-Daly Field. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m., with the match streamed live on FloCollege.
The Tribe then returns to CAA action Saturday, Oct. 17, traveling to face College of Charleston for a 1 p.m. matchup in Charleston, S.C.
