6/5/2025 10:00:00 AM

WILLIAMSBURG, Va.— William & Mary men's soccer head coach, Chris Norris, announced the addition of six incoming freshman ahead of the 2025 season.

Damen Burney, Devin Cooper, Max Cooper, Michael DiOrio, Beckham Harris and JT Quinter are the half-dozen making up the freshman class.

"We are really excited to have these six young men joining the Tribe family," said Norris. "Assistant coaches Kyle Symczak and Tyler Doll worked extremely hard to evaluate a very large player pool and build relationships. Ultimately, these six student-athletes stood out in terms of fit. We eagerly anticipate their arrival in August."

Damen Burney
6'6 | 180 | Defender | Portsmouth, Va.

Burney joins the Tribe from nearby Portsmouth where he was a first team all-district and all-region selection. The lanky defender played club for NVA in the ECNL where he was named First Team Mid Atlantic All-Conference.

Norris on Burney:
"Damen joins us from Northern Virginia Alliance Soccer. Damen is a unique prospect. He is a 6'6" left-footed center back who can also play left back. Damen is very good in the air at both ends of the field. He is a patient defender who reads the game well and uses his length to his advantage. Damen is also a very capable player in buildup play. He joins a strong group of returning defenders and his unique attributes will certainly enhance the group."

Devin Cooper
5'7 | 140 | Midfielder | Chesterfield, Va.

One of three incoming freshman hailing from the Commonwealth, Cooper was a four-time ECNL First Team Mid Atlantic All-Conference selection playing for Richmond United. Cooper comes from a lineage of college soccer players, with both of his parents playing for VCU.

Norris on Cooper:
"Devin developed his game with Richmond United. Devin is a quick, technical, cerebral midfielder who can feature centrally or on the wing. He is extremely adaptable and always seems to fill critical roles for his team. Devin can score goals and create chances for teammates, but he is equally comfortable dropping deeper, helping in possession and being a tenacious midfield defender. Devin's versatility will enable him to help the team in several areas."

Max Cooper
6'1 | 175 | Forward | Williamsburg, Va.

Truly a local product, Max Cooper comes down the street from Jamestown High School to join the Tribe in 2025-26. Cooper became the all-time leading scorer in Jamestown history over his career, scoring 121 goals with 38 assists in 70 career games. He was named the Bay Rivers District Player of the Year three times and helped lead the Eagles to a state title in 2023.

Norris on Cooper:
"Max played for the VA Reign Football Club here in Williamsburg. Max is a dynamic goal scorer. He is fast, powerful, and scores in a variety of ways. Max relishes the responsibility of scoring goals and is always alert to dangerous moments. He is also a fiery competitor who hates to lose. Max will be a great addition to our attacking group and is likely to feature as a center forward and winger."

Michael DiOrio
6'2 | 170 | Defender | Las Vegas, Nev.

Two times an all-state selection in Nevada, Michael DiOrio joins the Tribe on the backline in 2024-25. DiOrio posted an impressive 35 goals and 28 assists during his senior season and also had a successful career playing club for Heat FC. His father Adam played soccer at UNLV.

Norris on DiOrio:
"Michael comes to us from the highly successful Las Vegas Heat Surf Soccer Club. Michael is an extremely versatile defender. He can play every role in the back, but we like him best as an attacking outside back. Michael combines athleticism, a high soccer IQ and a great mentality. He is a tough, relentless defender but also gets forward very well and can create and score goals. Michael will be a great option in an already strong group of defenders."

Beckham Harris
5'11 | 155 | Midfielder | Summerville, S.C.

Beckham Harris comes to W&M following a career at Ashley Ridge High School that saw him be a three-time SCHSL All-Region selection while twice earning SCHSL All-State. Harris amassed over 125 points in his career at Ashley Ridge while also having over 70 points in his ECNL career with the South Carolina Surf. He was named ECNL Southeast All-Conference First Team. His father Nate is a W&M alum and wrestled for the Tribe.

Norris on Harris:
"Beckham arrives in Williamsburg after a successful youth career with South Carolina Surf Soccer. Beckham is a smooth, intelligent, hard-working midfielder. He possesses a complete game that allows him to excel as an attacking, box-to-box or defensive midfielder. Beckham scores goals in a variety of ways. He's a tough ball-winner. He is also capable of dictating tempo from a deeper role. Beckham's addition to our center midfield group will bring excellent quality and versatility."

JT Quinter
6'4 | 205 | Midfielder | Harleysville, Pa.

JT Quinter comes to William & Mary as an athlete just as both his parents did before him. His father Josh played soccer for the Tribe while his mother Trish played field hockey and lacrosse. Quinter was First Team All-InterAc at Germantown Academy while leading the team in both scoring and assists as a junior and senior. He played his club soccer for HEX FC in the ECNL and was named a First Team All-Conference selection.

Norris on Quinter:
"JT was a top youth player with Hex FC Dominion from the Philadelphia area. JT is a physically imposing defensive midfielder. His size and strength make him a difficult matchup for opposing teams. JT loves individual battles and is a tenacious competitor. He has also really improved his range of passing. JT can be a dominant force in the air, including at set pieces. Additionally, he exhibits important leadership ability. JT brings some unique qualities to the center of midfield and will give us valuable flexibility."

The Tribe will open its 2025 season in August with schedule and ticket information being released later this summer.
