TOWSON, Md. – The William & Mary lacrosse team fell at Towson, 15-10, on Saturday afternoon.
W&M (5-7, 1-4) owned a 4-2 lead after the first quarter, but Towson (6-5, 2-2) responded with a 10-0 run to take control of the contest.
Although the Tribe outscored the Tigers, 6-2, during the remainder of the matchup, it was unable to get closer than the final margin.
Ainsley Huizenga led W&M with four points (3g, 1a), while
Paige Gilbert also recorded a hat trick on just four shots to go with two ground balls, a draw control and a caused turnover.
Kate Draddy totaled a team-high three draw controls, while
Jaylin Locke posted a team-best three caused turnovers with a ground ball.
Anna Armstrong also came up big defensively with two caused turnovers, two ground balls and a draw control, while
Molly Delaney added three ground balls.
Goalie
Marin Wilhelm registered a season-high 14 saves.
Towson outshot W&M, 40-33, which included a 29-22 advantage in shots on goal.
The Tigers also owned advantages in draw controls (18-9) and ground balls (26-21), while they committed one fewer turnover (16-17).
Milana Zizakovic led TU with seven points (6g, 1a), six draw controls, four caused turnovers and two ground balls, while Valerie Thompson (3g, 3a), Katie Roszko (2g, 3a) and Savannah Safchuck (3g, 1a) also provided significant production.
Goalie Jenna Cardeno tallied 12 saves and a .545 save percentage.
W&M will return to action when it hosts Elon at Martin Family Stadium next Sunday at noon. The contest will be W&M's Morgan's Message game.
