Baseball Tops Stony Brook 8-6 to Sweep Series

STONY BROOK, N.Y. — Third baseman Jamie Laskofki hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the sixth inning that proved the difference as William & Mary took down Stony Brook 8-6 on Sunday afternoon at Joe Nathan Field for the series sweep.

The Tribe (19-24, 12-6 CAA) won their sixth straight ballgame and fifth straight in CAA play.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first at-bat of the game, center fielder Ben Parker doubled to extend his hitting streak to 29 games. However, Parker was left at second as the Tribe went down scoreless.

Stony Brook (21-20, 8-10) took the lead in the bottom of the first on a leadoff solo homer by Matthew Jackson.

The Tribe evended the contest in the second when shortstop Owen Wilson doubled in Derek Holmes for an RBI.

W&M starter Nick Lottchea held the Seawolves in the second. In the third, left fielder Lucas Carmichael blasted a leadoff homer to right field to put his team ahead 2-1. First baseman Anthony Greco would double the lead with an RBI groundout to the pitcher, plating Laskofski.

After Stony Brook got a run back in the third, W&M responded in the top of the fourth when Laskofski hit a sacrifice fly to score Parker for a 4-2 lead.

RHP Carter Lovasz entered in the fourth inning and retired the Seawolves. The home team took the lead with a three-spot in the fifth on the strength of two home runs.

However, the Tribe did not take long to reclaim the advantage. In the sixth, a walk by Carmichael and single by Christian Rush set the stage for a three-run home run by Laskofski that put the visitors ahead 7-5. The freshman had four RBI on the day.

Lovasz ran into some trouble in the home half of the sixth after loading the bases. However, the senior avoided any trouble when he got a three-pitch strikeout of Stony Brook's Nico Azpilcueta.

RHP Daniel Lingle entered with two outs in the seventh and two runners on. After Stony Brook singled to score a run, Parker threw out SBU's Chris Carson, who was attempting to stretch a single into a double, with Holmes applying the tag.

After W&M went scoreless in the top of the eighth, Lingle shut the door in the bottom half of the frame with a scoreless inning including one strikeout.

DH Charlie Iriotakis homered in the ninth to give the Tribe a critical insurance run, putting it ahead 8-6.

RHP Reed Interdonato came out for the ninth. After walking a batter, Interdonato struck out the next two Seawolves batters. He then got the game-clinching strikeout of Carson, who represented the winning run.

Interdonato picked up the save while Lovasz earned the win. Nicholas Rizzo was charged with the loss for Stony Brook.
