ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The 12th-ranked William & Mary men's gymnastics team made history on Friday afternoon as a school-record five Tribe standouts combined to qualify for seven spots in the finals at the NCAA Championships hosted by the University of Michigan.
Evan Wilkins and
Sam Lee led the way by advancing in two events apiece during the opening session of the national championships, while
Connor Barrow,
Niko Greenly and
Luke Tully also earned spots.
Wilkins placed fifth on floor (13.633) and 10th on parallel bars (13.433), while Lee finished seventh on parallel bars (13.566, season high) and ninth on vault (13.966).
Greenly placed 13th on parallel bars (13.3, career high), while Barrow (13.866) and Tully (12.866) finished 14th on vault and high bar, respectively.
The finals will be held on Saturday at 6:30 p.m., when the top eight competitors in all-around and each event will garner NCAA All-America distinction. The finals will be broadcast live on ESPN2.
W&M placed sixth as a team with a score of 307.691 during the first session of the national championships. Nebraska recorded the top total with a 324.894 and was followed by Oklahoma (323.460), Penn State (321.992), California (319.091), Air Force (313.526) and W&M.
