Tribe Stymied by UNCW on Friday

WILMINGTON, N.C. — The William & Mary baseball team was held to just four hits in a 9-1 loss to UNCW in CAA action on Friday evening at Brooks Field.Tribe Stymied by UNCW on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Seahawks (17-17, 5-5 CAA) took a commanding early lead with five runs in the first inning. UNCW racked up five hits and was helped by a Tribe error. RHP Daniel Lingle entered from the bullpen and got a flyout double play to end the frame.

LHP Tom Bourque provided two quality innings for the Tribe (12-21, 4-6), retiring the Seahawks' side in the second and third. Bourque struck out two and walked none.

W&M finally got on the board in the fourth inning when right fielder Christian Rush hit a solo home run.

The Seahawks capitalized in the bottom of the fourth when they scored on a throwing error at third. William & Mary was hurt by five errors on the night, leading to a pair of unearned runs.

In the fifth, center fielder Ben Parker hit a two-out double to extend his hitting streak to 19 games. He got no further as the Tribe were held scoreless in the frame and for the rest of the contest.

UNCW extended their lead to 7-1 with an RBI double in the seventh before adding a two-run homer in the eighth to account for the final margin.

In the top of the eighth, left fielder Lucas Carmichael bounced a single up the middle to up his hitting streak to 19 games, equaling his teammate Parker.

UNCW reliever Trace Baker got the win, tossing five scoreless innings. LHP Chad Yates took the loss for the Tribe. The game was delayed for one hour and 25 minutes due to inclement weather.

STAT NUGGETS
  • For Parker and Carmichael, the 19-game hitting streaks are tied with Chris Rahl for the fifth-longest streak by a W&M hitter since at least 2004. Rahl posted his streak from March 14-April 20, 2004.
  • The solo blast by Rush gave him nine straight games with a hit, while his on-base streak increased to 15.
  • Lingle made his team-leading 19th appearance of the year, going ⅔ of an inning.
  • RHP Connor Kolarov went two innings, allowing one unearned run and one hit.
