Offenses Explodes for 18 Runs Against Princeton

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Charlie Iriotakis drove in five runs, and belted his first career home run, as the William & Mary offense exploded for 18 hits in an 18-1 victory over Princeton on Wednesday afternoon at Plumeri Park.

The Tribe (5-12) had three players record three more or hits, highlighted by the right fielder Iriotakis going 3-for-5 with three runs. Center fielder Ben Parker went 3-for-6 and drove in a pair, while third baseman Jamie Laskofski also had a 3-for-6 day.

On the mound, W&M starter Chad Yates threw four innings of one-run ball, striking out five. RHP Nick Lottchea earned the win in relief, going three scoreless.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Princeton (3-10) took the early lead with a run in the first inning, the Tribe loaded the bases in the bottom half but were unable to score. They also stranded two in the second inning.

The home team finally broke through in the third. Iriotakis grounded an infield single for the Tribe's first run, followed by another infield base hit by shortstop Owen Wilson that plated Iriotakis for a 2-1 lead.

Yates pitched effectively in his start, retiring the side in order in the fourth. He handed the ball to Lottchea, who promptly set down eight of the ten batters he faced. The senior struck out three and issued no walks.

From there, it was all Tribe. W&M added to their lead in the fifth inning when Iriotakis singled in another run, followed by a double-steal attempt that scored Derek Holmes.

Holmes notched an RBI single in the sixth, part of a day that saw him reach base four times, including three walks.

The Tribe busted the game open with an eight-spot in the seventh. Parker got the scoring started with an RBI double. After three runs scored via wild pitches by Tigers pitching, Laskofski chipped in an RBI single to put W&M ahead 14-1.

Iriotakis then hit the big blast in the eighth inning, a three-run tater to left field.

RHP Zach Boyd closed the game out on the bump, retiring six of seven batters with three strikeouts. W&M shut down the Princeton offense for the final eight frames, out-hitting the opposition 18-5.

Lottchea got his second win of the season, while Princeton started James Beasley was credited with the loss.
