Balanced Attack, Hot Shooting Lead Men's Basketball to Season-Opening Win

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary men's basketball opened its season with a decisive 110-63 victory over Georgian Court on Monday night at Kaplan Arena. The Tribe shot 63.6% from the floor and had a balanced attack with all five starters scoring in double figures and eight players with at least eight points.

Sophomore Ryan Jackson, Jr. led W&M with 15 points, shooting 7-for-8 from the field, while also adding two steals. Graduate student Cade Haskins tallied with 14 points on 6-for-7 shooting and blocked three shots, showcasing his efficiency and defensive contribution. Seniors Chase Lowe and Kyle Pulliam added 11 points each, while Lowe chipped in a team-high six assists to go with six rebounds.

Juniors Kilian Brockhoff and Tunde Vahlberg Fasasi each scored in doubles figures. Brockhoff just missed a double-double with 11 points and eight rebounds, while Fasasi posted 10 points and five assists. As the team, the Tribe dominated inside, scoring 68 points in the paint and securing 52 rebounds compared to 32 for GCU. W&M's 110 points vs. the Lions ranks ninth in school history and are the most for a Tribe team since 2022. The 42 made field goals for the Green and Gold rank sixth in program annals.

W&M (1-0) seized control early thanks to an 8-0 run. Graduate student Jo'el Emanuel capped the spurt with four straight, including a dunk to give W&M a 13-6 lead at the 14:23 mark.

The dunk started a stretch of six-straight made field goals. Senior Finn Lally and Pulliam each hit triples during the stretch with the latter coming off a Vahlberg Fasasi steal and pass to extend the Tribe lead to double figures just over eight minutes into the contest. Back-to-back lay-ups from Lowe, the second on the fastbreak off a steal, extended the margin to 27-12.

The lead ballooned to 23 as the extended run reached 19-2 to push the advantage to 37-14 following a pair of Brockhoff free throws at the 6:45 mark. A Brockhoff lay-up in the final minute gave the Green and Gold a 30-point halftime lead, 56-26. The Tribe shot 65.6% (21-of-32) in the opening 20 minutes.

Jackson, Jr. started a 12-0 Tribe run early in the second half with a fast-break dunk. Junior Reese Miller scored the final six of the stretch with a triple and an old-fashion 3-point play to give W&M a 77-32 lead at the 13:13 mark.

The W&M lead reached its largest at 50 points, 108-58, on a Jackson, Jr. 3-pointer from in front of the Tribe bench with just 1:31 remaining.

Miller finished with nine points off the bench, while Emanuel added eight points and five rebounds. In total, W&M's reserves scored 53 points. The Tribe dished out 27 assists on its 42 made field goals. As a team, the Green and Gold tallied 10 steals and six blocks.
