Geddes’ Double-Double Not Enough as Tribe Falls at Howard

WASHINGTON, D.C — William & Mary women's basketball fell to Howard 64-53 at Burr Gymnasium on Sunday, despite Cassidy Geddes posting her first career double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

The Tribe (1-4) out-rebounded their opponent 40-32 but was hurt by 22 turnovers.

W&M opened play challenging the Bison (6-1) but faced difficulties offensively, connecting on only 2 of 13 field goal attempts. Despite these struggles, Amelia Basit provided a spark with a layup at 2:36, assisted by Kyah Smith, to break their scoring drought. The Bison maintained control throughout the quarter with efficient shooting, building a lead that stood at 19–8 by the end of the first. W&M managed to narrow the gap slightly with Cassidy Geddes hitting two free throws as the quarter closed.

The Tribe shifted momentum midway through the second quarter with a 7–0 run, highlighted by a 3-pointer from Dynasti Pierce at 5:19, closing Howard's lead to 23–15. Natalie Fox contributed defensively with a block and several rebounds, while Geddes added a crucial tip-in at the 3:00 mark. Despite turnovers and fouls, W&M ended the quarter strong with a jumper by Geddes at 0:37. The visiting team outscored Howard 17–16 in the quarter, reducing the deficit to 35–25 at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Green and Gold made a significant push, cutting into the deficit with a 10–4 run in the paint. Geddes contributed a crucial fast-break 3-pointer at 6:05, narrowing the gap. Monet Dance added momentum with a layup at 1:25, bringing the visitors within striking distance. However, the Bison's Emma NuQuay's 3-pointer with 11 seconds left extended their lead. The quarter concluded with W&M outscoring Howard 16–13, but they trailed 48–41 heading into the final frame.

In the fourth quarter, W&M made an early push with Kyah Smith's layup at 9:42, narrowing the margin. Dance added a three-point play at 8:49, pulling the team closer. However, Howard maintained the lead by capitalizing on free throws and field goals, extending their advantage. Despite a late three-pointer by Smith at 1:35, the Green and Gold could not close the gap, and the game concluded with Howard securing a 64–53 victory.

Fox was the Tribe's leading rebounder, hauling in 13 boards. Dance was also in double-figures with 12 points. Smith posted nine points and dished out four assists.
