Volleyball Ends Season With Sweep of Hampton

HAMPTON, Va. — William & Mary volleyball secured a decisive 3-0 victory over Hampton on Sunday at Holland Hall, with set scores of 25-23, 25-19, and 25-11. The win ended the Tribe's season on a three-game winning streak.

William & Mary (12-15, 7-9 CAA) started the first set by capitalizing on an early service error from the Pirates (1-26, 0-16), leveling the score at 2-2. Katherine Arnason and Ryann Love contributed to the Tribe's defensive efforts with a block, while Audrey Brcka's timely kill kept the score close. Despite trailing midway, William & Mary managed to tie the score at 15-15.

As the set progressed, Olivia Westfort's service ace gave the Green and Gold a slight edge at 17-16. Brcka continued to make an impact with consecutive kills, helping the team regain the lead. Arnason and Westfort combined for another critical block, pushing the score to 23-20 in favor of W&M.

The set concluded with Nicole Smith's kill and a block error by Hampton, allowing the Tribe to secure a 25-23 victory in the first set.

In the second set, W&M shifted momentum early with a series of effective plays, including a kill by Beatriz Silva assisted by Smith. Arnason and Westfort contributed with key kills, helping the Tribe maintain a slim advantage. The team capitalized on Hampton's errors, including a service miscue, to extend their lead to 14-13, highlighted by a service ace from Kaitlyn Dunnigan.

As the set progressed, the Tribe built momentum, with Arnason and Shylah Swope recording decisive service aces. Defensive efforts by Westfort and Devereaux Hoxsie further frustrated the Pirates' offense. Smith added to the score with a kill, and the visiting team closed the set on a strong note, with Brcka and Arnason securing the final points. William & Mary ended the set with a 25-19 lead.

The Green and Gold seized control early in the third set, building momentum with a series of effective plays. Brcka initiated the scoring with a kill, and Silva's setting facilitated multiple points, including a service ace by Dunnigan. Arnason contributed two consecutive kills, pushing William & Mary to a 7-1 lead.

The team continued to dominate, with Smith and Brcka adding kills and combining with Hoxsie for a block, extending the lead to 13-5. Defensive plays by Love and Sophia Van Name further frustrated Hampton's attack, maintaining the advantage.

The Tribe closed the set with a decisive 25-11 win, highlighted by another service ace from Dunnigan and a final kill by Van Name, securing the set with a 14-point margin and affirming their control.
