Women's Tennis Completes Perfect Day 1 of W&M Hidden Dual

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - William & Mary women's tennis enjoyed a strong opening day of the W&M Hidden Dual, going a perfect 8-0 in singles action and 4-0 in doubles competition against Morgan State and Norfolk State.
 
In doubles, the Tribe went 3-0 against the Bears and 1-0 against the Spartans. Junior Francesca Davis and Tilda Larsson continued their strong fall with a 6-4 win over Lauryn Hall and Marta Serra Carles. The duo improved to 8-1 on the year.
 
Sophomore Mira Kernagis and freshman Alexia Gonzalez-Galino picked up their fourth win of the fall, downing Morgan State's Tyler Williams and Damla Arslan, 6-4. The senior tandem of Emma Pell and Sia Chaudry also notched a 6-4 win, topping Roua Limem and Amira Bergaoui for their first win as a team this fall.  Senior Yaelle Vaissaud and junior Parker Debnam ran their record to 2-1 with a 6-4 victory over Norfolk State's Elena Martinez Prado and Irina Iurea.
 
In singles, Chaurdy won matching 6-4 sets over Arslan for her fifth win of the fall, while Larrson dispatched of Bergaoui, 6-4, 6-2, to even her ledger at 4-4.
 
Davis tallied her team-leading eight singles win of the fall, posting a three-set win over Hall, 6-0, 2-6, 6-2. Kernagis improved to 6-4 on the year dropping just two games in a dominant, 6-2, 6-0, win over Morgan State's Marta Serra Carles
 
Freshmen Rebeka Svabikova and Gonzalez-Galino each notched their fourth singles wins of the fall. Svabikova rallied for a three-set win over Williams, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2, while Gonzalez-Galino made quick work of Limem, 6-2, 6-0.
 
Pell rounded out the Morgan State singles sweep with a win over Julia Jeffrey, 6-4, 7-5. She ran her mark to 7-2 during the fall.
 
Vaissaud and Debnam each posted singles wins against Norfolk State opponents. Vaissaud won convincing 6-1 sets over Kayla Kennedy for her fifth win of the year, while Debnam needed three sets but topped Sabina Iurea, 6-1, 3-6, 7-6 (5), to even her record at 3-3.
 
The Tribe returns to action on Saturday when it squares off against VCU at 11 a.m. followed by Morgan State and Norfolk State at 3 p.m. All matches of the W&M Hidden Dual on Saturday will be played at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.
