Tribe Sweeps Northeastern to Cap Perfect Weekend

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — William & Mary swept Northeastern in straight sets on Saturday at Kaplan Arena, posting scores of 26-24, 25-19, and 25-20. W&M recorded a hitting percentage of .316, with a match-high 19 kills in the third set as they took won matches over the weekend.

William & Mary (8-13, 3-7 CAA) started the first set by establishing an early lead, benefiting from a series of effective plays including a kill by Nicole Smith assisted by Beatriz Silva. The team maintained momentum with contributions from Olivia Westfort and Katherine Arnason, keeping the score close against Northeastern (7-12, 3-7 CAA).

As the set progressed, the teams exchanged points with neither establishing a commanding lead. A late push by the Tribe included crucial blocks by Damisi Osibodu and Arnason, which helped to narrow the gap.

In the final stretch, W&M mounted a decisive comeback. Audrey Brcka delivered a service ace to tie the score, followed by a kill from Osibodu that tipped the balance. The set concluded with a kill from Arnason, securing a 26-24 victory for the Green and Gold.

The second set opened with W&M capitalizing on early errors by Northeastern. Arnason and Smith contributed key kills, with assists from Silva, to maintain momentum.

Despite a few service errors, the Tribe executed a series of strategic plays, including a critical block by Osibodu and Arnason, extending their lead. Northeastern managed to keep the score close with timely kills from Valentina Meirelles and Emma Rowell, but W&M responded by forcing additional errors from their opponents.

As the set closed, the Tribe secured the final points with disciplined defense, including consecutive blocks by Arnason and Osibodu. The home team concluded the set with a 25-19 advantage, maintaining control of the match.

In the third set, W&M built momentum early with a series of kills from Brcka and Westfort. A key moment came when Silva assisted Smith for a kill, extending the advantage to 3-1. The team capitalized on Northeastern errors to maintain their lead.

As the set progressed, Arnason and Westfort delivered pivotal kills, pushing the lead to 7-3. Despite a push from Northeastern, the Tribe held firm, with Brcka contributing significantly through both kills and a service ace, maintaining a narrow lead.

In the final stretch, W&M secured the set with a decisive run. Brcka and Smith added crucial kills, and a final point from Osibodu sealed the set at 25-20 in favor of the Green and Gold.
