Sia Chaudry and sophomore
Mira Kernagis won two matches on Saturday to advance to the quarterfinals of the ITA Atlantic Region Championship.
Chaudry and Kernagis, a No. 9-16 seed in the regionally, swept the Delaware State team of Alba Benedito and Maite Bou Safont, 8-0, to open the day and advance to the third round. The Tribe pair rolled to an 8-3 win over the Howard tandem of Camille Hall and Imani Jean in the next round. The Tribe pair is 3-0 on the fall and meets the No. 5 seeded team of Margaret Navarro and Isabelle Lacy of Virginia in the quarterfinals on Sunday.
Seniors
Emma Pell and
Yaelle Vaissaud advanced to the round of 16 in the main doubles draw before their run ended. One day after knocking off a seeded team, the Tribe pair topped Georgetown's Ruhika Bhat and Katie Garofolo-Ro in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (4). Their run ended in an 8-6 setback to Audrey Moutama and Daniella Shved of West Virginia in the third round.
Junior
Francesca Davis's run in the main singles draw came to an end in a tough three-set contest on Saturday in the second round. After dropping the opening set to West Virginia's Laura Villanueva Morillo, Davis bounced back to take the second in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (5). The Mountaineer player advanced by taking the decisive third, 6-1. It was the first setback of the fall for Davis who is now 7-1 on the year.
The ITA Atlantic Region Championship continues on Sunday beginning at 9 a.m. at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center and live video will be available for the event.
