BLACKSBURG, Va. - A trio of William & Mary women's tennis doubles teams and junior Francesca Davis advanced to the main draw second round at the ITA Atlantic Region Championships on Friday.
 
Individually, Davis rallied for a three-set win to improve to 7-0 on the year and advance in the singles draw. In doubles, all three Tribe pairs during in impressive outings to advance.
 
Virginia Tech's Lizaveta Castillo jumped out to a set advantage over Davis, but the Tribe junior roared back by winning the final two sets by matching 6-4 score lines. She will meet West Virginia's Laura Villanueva Morillo in the second round on Saturday.
 
Seniors Emma Pell and Yaelle Vaissaud pulled off the most impressive Tribe win of the day. The duo upset the No. 9-16 seeded pair of Mia Saveljic and Sophie Williams from JMU, 8-6. Pell and Vaissaud, who improved to 7-3 together over their Tribe careers, advanced to face Georgetown's Katie Garofolo-Ro and Ruhika Bhat in the second round on Saturday.
 
The Tribe's two seeded teams posted convincing wins in the first round on Friday. Senior Sia Chaudry and sophomore Mira Kernagis, who are a No. 9-16 seed, dropped just one game in an 8-1 win over George Washington's Katya Balin and Laziza Talipova. The Tribe pair, which is 2-1 as a team over the last two years, faces Delaware State's Alba Benedito and Maite Bou Safont in the second round on Saturday.
 
W&M's No. 6 seeded tandem of Davis and freshman Tilda Larsson topped Towson's Chandre Boshoff and Kiersten Tambe, 8-3, for their seventh consecutive  win to start the fall season. They meet Navy's Oliva Fermo and Nicole Fu in the second found on Saturday.
 
The ITA Atlantic Region Championship continues on Saturday beginning at 9 a.m. at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center and live video will be available for the event.
