WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Playing its second national top-10 opponent in the first three contests, William & Mary field hockey suffered a 6-0 setback to No. 8 Harvard on Friday afternoon at Busch Field.
Graduate student goalkeeper
Maddie George picked up her second double-digit save game in as many tries in 2024. George totaled 15 stops against the Crimson, just one off her career-high set last season in the NCAA First Round against North Carolina.
Sophomores
Mackinzie Brown and
Emme Schwartz both registered their second defensive saves of the season for the Tribe (0-3)
Harvard (1-0), which was playing its season opener, scored twice in the opening quarter to take control of the contest. The Crimson opened the scoring on a Lara Beekhuis goal just five minutes into the game.
Emily Bronckers scored twice over a four-minute stretch to end the first quarter and start the second, tallying the second less than a minute into the second frame. Fiene Orelemans assisted on two of Harvard's three first-half goals as the visitors led 3-0 at the break.
Lucy Leel and Bronte-May Brough added to the Crimson lead in the third quarter with the latter marker coming off a penalty corner. Sara Silarszke's unassisted goal with four minutes remaining provided the final margin.
