W&M opened its season with a convincing 41-7 victory against VMI last Saturday. Led by an efficient performance by quarterback Darius Wilson (11-of-15, 190 yds, 2TD) and a pair of touchdowns by Hollis Mathis, the Tribe jumped out to a 21-0 lead midway through the second quarter and piled up all 41 of its points through three quarters. Defensively, W&M held the Keydets scoreless in the second half and allowed just 72 total yards in the final 30 minutes. W&M outgained VMI, 446-241, which included a 241-96 advantage through the air. Additionally, W&M scored touchdowns with all four of its trips into the red zone and were forced to punt just twice.

Coastal Carolina opened its season with a lopsided 55-27 win at Jacksonville State last weekend. The Chanticleers totaled 552 yards, including 294 on the ground, en route to setting a school record for most points scored in a season opener. Quarterback Ethan Vasko was named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week after accounting for 288 yards of total offense and three touchdowns. Senior Bowl Watch List selection Will Whitson led CCU's defensive effort with six tackles, a sack and a forced fumble, while Shane Bruce posted a team-high eight tackles.
