TOWSON, Md. - William & Mary volleyball dropped its CAA Opener at league favorite Towson, 3-0 (25-21, 25-14, 25-21), on Saturday night.
Fifth-year
Maddie Meyers led the Tribe with 10 kills and hit .348 on the evening. Senior
Amy Schwem posted her second double-double of the season with 16 assists and 10 digs. Sophomore
Katherine Arnason hit .412 for the match and totaled eight kills.
Towson took the opening set behind a .270 hitting % and 16 kills. The Tigers used a pair of 3-point runs to open up leads of 15-9 and then 21-12 on a block by Mackenzie Whyte and Ava Nakai.
W&M closed to within 22-19 behind a 7-1 run. Back-to-back Meyers and freshman
Devereaux Hoxsie kills cut the deficit to three. Towson held on to claim the set thanks to a Victoria Barrett kill, one of her 23 on the night.
Towson used a big run to open up a lead and win the second set. The Tigers went on a 14-1 run to take a 19-4 lead. The home team scored 10 straight, including three Barrett kills and four team blocks, on the way to a 25-14 second set win.
W&M jumped out to 2-0 lead in the third set behind an
Olivia Esposito ace. Three-straight Towson kills put the Tigers back in front at 14-11.
The Tribe closed to within 20-19 on a Meyers kill. Towson though closed out the victory by winning four of the last five points of the set. The Tribe hit .314 with 14 kills in the third set, but the Tigers countered by hitting .381 with 19 kills.
