Volleyball to Host ODU for Home Opener at Kaplan Arena on Tuesday

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary volleyball team will open its 2024 home slate when it welcomes Old Dominion to Kaplan Arena on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Admission is FREE.

William & Mary Athletics, in conjunction with the William & Mary Police Department, has implemented a clear bag policy that regulates the size and type of bag that may be carried into W&M Athletics facilities during the 2024-25 year, including Busch Field, Kaplan Arena, Martin Family Stadium, Plumeri Park, and Zable Stadium. Tribe News and Notes
- W&M opened its season at Quest for the Crown hosted by ODU last weekend and posted a 1-1 record, defeating UTSA (3-1) and falling to Virginia (0-3). Olivia Esposito and Sabrina Malcolm were selected to the All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the event following their impressive season-opening performances. Esposito totaled a team-high 7.0 blocks to go with nine kills, four digs and three assists, while Malcolm finished the weekend with 5.0 blocks and eight kills.
 
- The Tribe leads the all-time series versus ODU, 2-1, but fell to the Monarchs in Norfolk last season, 3-1. Olivia Esposito came up big in last year's matchup, totaling 11 kills on a .368 hitting percentage with nine blocks, while Amy Schwem posted 29 assists.
 
- W&M was tremendously successful at Kaplan Arena last season and posted a 6-2 record. During the last two seasons, the Tribe is 12-6 in home matches. Tuesday's contest will be the first of four consecutive home matches for W&M, as it will host the Tribe Invitational next weekend when Bucknell, Quinnipiac and George Mason visit Williamsburg.

- In his first season at the helm of the Tribe program, head coach Ryan Adams led the Green and Gold to a successful campaign. W&M posted its most winningest season, in both wins and winning %, since 2012 and notched the most CAA victories since 2009.
 
- Junior middle blocker Oliva Esposito was one of 10 players named to the Preseason All-CAA team. Last season, she earned All-CAA Second Team honors. Esposito set program records with a 36.7 hitting % and a No. 32 nationally ranked 1.27 blocks per set. Her 112 total blocks were the fourth-most in a single season in program history.
 
- Tribe volleyball completed another impressive year in the classroom as it was named an AVCA Team Academic Award recipient following the 2023-24 academic year. W&M earned the award for the fifth time over the previous six seasons and the eighth time since the award's inception in 1993.
