Volleyball Opens CAA Play at Towson

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary volleyball opens CAA play this weekend with a pair on the road at Towson.
 
The Tribe takes on the Tigers on Saturday, Sept. 21, at 6 p.m., before wrapping up the trip on Sunday, Sept. 22, at 2 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on FloVolleyball.

Tribe News and Notes
- W&M starts the CAA portion of its schedule on the road for the first time since 2018. Last season, the Tribe opened league action with a weekend sweep of Charleston at home. Both wins came in five-set matches.
 
- The Tribe posted eight CAA wins a season ago in its first season under head coach Ryan Adams. It was the most league victories in a season for W&M since it had 10 in 2009.
 
- As a team, the Tribe ranks among the CAA and national leaders in blocks and kills. Nationally, the Green and Gold is 15th in total blocks (96) and 49th in blocks per set (2.53). W&M ranks 56th nationally and fourth in the CAA in total kills (457).
 
- Fifth-year Maddie Meyers was named the the Queens Fall Classic All-Tournament Team. She totaled 41 kills, averaging 3.42 per set, and tallied a pair of double-doubles over the three-game event. It marks the second-straight event she earned All-Tournament honors after garnering the distinction at the Tribe Invitational.
 
- Meyers has produced three matches of 20 or more kills over the last two weeks. She tallied a career-high 24 against Old Dominion on Sept 3, before posting 22 in a win over George Mason and another 22 at Queens.
 
- Meyers ranks fourth in CAA and 57th nationally in total kills (128). She is also fifth in the league in kills per set (3.37).
 
- In the middle, junior Olivia Esposito leads the Tribe and ranks 25th nationally in total blocks (45). That numbers also ranks third in the CAA. Esposito is also averaging 1.18 blocks per set. Following a standout performance in the Tribe Invitational, Esposito was selected as the CAA Defensive Player of the Week.
 
- Returning from injury last season, senior setter Amy Schwem made her season debut against Bucknell at the Tribe Invitational. She started all three matches at the Queens Fall Classic last week. In those contests. Schwem totaled 71 assists and notched a double-doubles against the hosts (26 assists and 13 digs).
 
- As a team, the Tribe ranks 47th nationally in total assist (427), which is also fifth in CAA.
 
- Freshman Devereaux Hoxsie enjoyed a career match in the Tribe's win over USC Upstate on Sept. 13. She totaled a team-best 15 kills and hit .391 against the Spartans. Hoxsie made her collegiate debut at the Tribe Invitational and had 12 kills in the win over George Mason.
