No. 15 Penn Pushes Past Men's Soccer, 2-0

WILLIAMSBURG, Va.— The No. 15 Penn Quakers ended up the getting the best of the William & Mary men's soccer team Friday, using a goal in each half to beat the Tribe at Martin Family Stadium.

The Quakers kicked off the festivities by taking the first two shots of the night, but both fell off target.

The first W&M (2-4-0, 0-1-0 CAA) shot came in the 22nd minute, when Alexandros Katsari-Hoefer ripped a try from 25 yards out that missed high of the frame.

Ryan Eapen was called into action as the Tribe goaltender a minute later, saving a header chance from Penn (4-0-0).

The visitors struck first, earning a penalty in the 29th minute and subsequently converting the penalty kick.

Lucas Caldas and Thor Sigurjonsson each had chances to equalize before the half ended but missed the target, and Penn took a 1-0 lead to the break.

Shots at the half sat even at 4-4.

From the onset of the second half the Quakers seemed poised to expand their lead, firing a blistering shot from the top of the box. Eapen made a fantastic read on the attempt, however, sprawling out to his left and batting the ball away to keep it 1-0.

W&M's first shot on goal was in the 60th minute when Aidan Morrison placed a header on target. The Penn netminder was ready for his first chance though, scooping the ball up for a save.

The Quakers were able to bolster their lead, scoring off a corner kick in the 70th minute.

Sam Delgado attempted to cut the deficit in half for the hosts, placing a header on goal that required a quick recovery by the Penn keeper to make the save.

Eapen made a nice save for the Tribe with 10 minutes remaining, but the No. 15 Quakers already had all they needed to secure a 2-0 win on the road and stay undefeated.

Penn ended up owning the shot total, 9-8, in a very physical match that saw a combined 24 fouls and five cards. Eapen made three saves for the Green and Gold on the evening.
