Women's Tennis Remained Undefeated in CAA Play, Blanking Towson, 7-0

TOWSON, Md. – William & Mary women's tennis ran its win streak to eight matches and remained undefeated in CAA play behind a 7-0 victory over Towson on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Tribe (12-5, 4-0 CAA) won the doubles point and claimed straight sets wins at all six singles positions. Graduate students Yu Chen (No. 2) and Mila Mejic (No. 3), juniors Hedda Gurholt (No. 1), Alessandra Anghel (No. 4) and Ine Stange (No. 5) and freshman Francesca Davis (No. 6) each posted singles victories.
 
How it Happened
- The Tribe captured the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Davis and sophomore Yaelle Vaissaud won their third in a row without dropping a game in a 6-0 win over Olivia Rothfeld and Erin Gray on line three. The Tribe pair improved to 10-3 in dual-match action.
- Stange and Anghel clinched the point with a 6-2 win over Mya Spencer and Sania Suchinsky at No. 2. The Tribe duo won its second in a row and improved to 3-1 on the year.
- Gurholt, Mejic and Stange extended their win streaks in the victory over the Tigers. Stange won her ninth match in a row, topping Lea Kosanovic, 7-5, 6-3, at No. 5. She ran her season ledger to 15-6 and 4-0 in CAA play.
- At the top spot, Gurholt pushed her win streak to seven matches with a straight-sets triumph over Mya Spencer, 6-4, 7-6 (10). She upped her mark to 22-4 overall, 10-2 at No. 1 and 4-0 in the CAA.
- Mejic remained undefeated in CAA play as well with her sixth win in a row. The Tribe graduate student dropped just three games in a 6-1, 6-2 win over Ashira Murray. She is 12-9 on the year and 4-0 in the league.
- Chen (No. 2) and Davis (No. 6) each won their fourth in a row on Saturday. Chen rolled to a 6-0, 6-1 win over Chandre Boshoff for her 16th win of the year. Davis upended Sania Suchinsky, 6-2, 6-3, to improve to 15-9 on the year and 7-1 at No. 6.
- Anghel made quick work of Rothfeld, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4. The Tribe junior moved to 12-4 on the year, 4-1 in dual-match play and 3-0 in league action.
